Thank you All for your replies. sent the ring back.  i have a loupe and the  pale pink stone seemed cloudy to my eye and the loupe definately showed inclusions. pink sapphire accents very nice so i thought the setting was pretty but it's vermeil. another one of my no-no's from past purchase mistakes.  from the "Wrapped in Gold" line

I don't see the term "vermeil" used too much anymore.  It's on the better end of plated gold over silver.  They use more gold to plate and the process might be different.  Vermeil will turn over time, but not nearly as fast as just your typical gold plated.  Vermeil is considered demi-fine jewelry so.  People selling gold over now and won't state if it's truly vermeil by telling you the microns used in the coating process.
