Not a good time to buy. Gold went up to almost $2000 ounce.  I believe on day recently , I did see it at $2000  but it's  currently hovering  at $1985

Hard to believe anything that lightweight as a feather can cost so much.

I started buying gold three years ago.  I sold most of mine on 2008, I did make a killing but I came to regret selling so much of it. Some I inherited from my mom and my aunt.  I can't ever replace the larger pieces but gradually, I'm buying gold from Shoplc.  Three pieces a year, I take advantage of the 5 Budget Pays.  For my birthday, I bought myself a bar pendant.  It wax on a clearance price.  Gold is just under $2000 today.  It might level off for a while but it will never go down so if I want some real gold pieces, I have to buy smart and use Budget Pay.

True story--I bought my first piece of gold jewelry when I was eight years old (a little ring with a blue stone).  My father did not want me to buy it because he thought I would lose it, and it would be a waste of money, but my mother allowed me, and now, decades later, I still have that first ring!

Even when I was in middle school, I would use my $5.00 weekly allowance to go to the local store and put gold jewelry on lay-away payments.  (My father said the store should not allow children to use lay-away--ha-ha!)

I bought gold jewelry for all occasions, and I have a great collection.  Gold jewelry is why I started shopping at QVC! I used to go to the QVC outlets every month and buy gold jewelry at bargain prices.  All my family and friends would get gold jewelry gifts from me.

FInally, just this month, I told my husband I was going to sell some of my collection. He said, "Are you sure, you will never get it back," but I have too much to wear, some of it I do not really like anymore, and some I have outgrown.

I sold most of my HSN Michael Anthony 10K pieces, Imperial gold bracelet (too heavy for me), and lots of gold stuff I bought at both Sears and JCP when they used to sell fine jewelry.

I am using the money for a cruise!

Yes, I still have many wonderful pieces, but the prices for new items are pretty outrageous, and the quality is not really there.

I have also decided that if I buy something, it should be an upgrade.  My last gold purchase (almost a year ago) was a pair of lovely18K gold Tagliamonte earrings from ShopHQ  (on clearance).

It is hard not to want to shop for gold jewelry, but unfortunately it really is becoming an investment purchase!  I hope we will all find some special pieces in the future that work with our budgets.  Enjoy Gem Day!

@SharkE     Years ago when gold was $200 an ounce and less... I bought up a store full of gold jewerly.... You could afford to then....

Today, with very high prices.... I say buy one or two pieces $$$$ you LOVE and know you will get a lot of wear from...

I have so much that I never wear and find myself going back to my favorite couple of pieces....

I sold off much of that mother load.... but still have a lot I do not wear...

Yeah, I already bought from Q and another the 14kt gold

Florentine bangle, local.  All I need.  I'm telling my sisters if they have anything to unload now is the time.

I sold off in the past, but, standing pat now. Let me enjoy what I got before I kick the can.

They won't have another 'fine' jewelry show now till maybe Mother's Day or later.
