Now, is the time to sell. Almost 2000/oz. My Aunt sold off some old gold rings and pulled in 1,000. I'm not selling don't need to, but, if your buying gold jewelry believe I'd wait LOL
sell good
buy bad

@SharkE I'm confused - Why should I wait to buy gold now - if in fact as you said it's ''going way up''?

I think you may have misread the original post. @SharkE is saying to sell now, not buy.

I sold some old, some broken pieces last year when it was $1800..made about $650.00.
Don't need to sell anything, didn't need to then, just thought it was a good idea since they weren't things I wanted to fix, or wear.
At that time everyone thought it was at an "all time high" and I was thinking sell, before it goes down again. I don't regret not holding onto those few pieces.
I did get everything newly appraised finally, last year...my insurance listed items' premium went up by a lot, but at least it's "protected" now. My appraisels were over 20 years old and some things not appraised, newly inherited.
As for retail....I was watching some of the recent QVC jewelry day shows..and for comparison.. I was wearing, a beautiful Affinity champagne diamond ring my mom had splurged to buy me over 10, maybe 14 years ago. A nice 14k gold setting, it is a puffed heart, covered in champagne diamonds. That was back when we were both new to Affinity, and some pieces were beautiful then. The diamonds on this ring are very sparkly. But to compare...I remember my mom spent about $360.00 for it. I looked at an Affinity heart shaped ring they were selling this year, not nearly as pretty a setting, or heart. The heart was flat and not attractively designed. $999.00. And the diamonds were "white" but Affinity diamonds aren't often very white. So yes...not the time to buy, and I, personally would want to go to a brick and mortar store and know what I'm getting, not off tv...especially these days.

@geezerette Lol. I also missed that part of the post when I first read it.
Now that I did, I am not sure today would be a bad time to buy gold jewelry because what's for sale now was bought at lesser prices than what will come onto the market a year from now.
Seems like every day I find another reason to stick to my resolve to wear the gold I already have instead of shopping for more.

Gold goes up and down. I don't think we are near the high now depending on how things go. I don't need the money, so I'm not thinking of selling unless I do.
Also remember 14 kt. is worth about half of the market price for gold. So a lot of USA jewelry really isn't worth that much now.

I'll hoard any gold I have, it may be the only thing with monetary value.

Considering the dollar is going to tank, I don't think I'd sell it unless the money is needed now.

As far as buying gold now because it was originally bought/sold at a lower price than now means nothing, IMO.
Trust me that fingers are working to the bone to increase the prices of what retailers already have in inventory, to bring it to the current gold prices.
It only makes sense to a retailer.
