Over the years I've either purchased for myself or been gifted beautiful jewelry w/ colored gemstones. I noticed I rarely wore them. If I had on a red outfit, & put on a ruby ring, it looked matchy matchy...same w/ my blue topaz and citrine, etc. I decided to do the same w/ my jewelry as I did in my closet: buy less, purchase neutrals, spend more on pieces I'll have forever and wear often... diamonds (or Diamonique). I did purchase the Barbara Bixby flower ring, but waited until she introduced it in white topaz. Now when I look at my jewelry selection, it's a question of choosing a ring, necklace, bracelet & not also having which color stones go with my outfit.

I have a good collection of diamond and colored stone jewelry (I'm old) and I wear them with any color.  It just depends on the look (more casual or dressier)) I'm going for.  I don't try to just match the color with the outfit.  I think about the whole look of the ring.

I approach this differently. I am also buying less but when I dress I always add color for contrast. In the event that I do match a piece of jewelry to my outfit, I always make sure that I add another piece in a contrasting color.

I do the same thing with bags. I may match my bag to my shoes but after so many years of working in Fashion I learned that doesn't always have to be the case. Now, I get more use out of my clothing, jewelry and accessories because I became more confident in making more of a bold yet sophisticated statement.

I urge you to give this a try. Color and texture should be seen IMO as tools that should be mixed and matched to add interest to an outfit. This takes practice. Don't give up on color; it's one of nature's most beautiful gifts.

I have it all and honestly, I don't over think my jewelry.  I don't match my jewelry to my outfits, rather I coordinate or choose a piece that off sets my outfit.  I do have clear stones and white pearls but I wear them because that's what I'm in the mood for that day...not because I don't want to wear an emerald pendant with a green top.

I love diamonds. To me, you can not beat the look of a good quality diamond! But, for colored gems - I seem to gravitate to the blues the most - anywhere from the sky blue of turquoise to the deep blue of topaz.

i guess I do kind of coordinate my jewelry with what color I am wearing at the time, but I do tend to wear a lot of black so in that case it just depends more on what mood I am in or where I am going.

My diamonds are like my sunglasses - I never really leave the house without any!
