QVC is only the retailer and they buy thousands upon thousands of items from jewelry manufacturers all over the world. They could have been cheated and they would have no way of knowing it until they get customer complaints. However, I think the hallmark is so small that your jewelry will use his loupe and find it. I bought a turquoise ring from JTV years ago. I loved that ring and I wore it often, it was not inexpensive and then a couple of years later, I received a letter from JTV. They discovered that ring was reconstituted turquoise, not the genuine turquoise it was sold as. They gave me a choice, return the ring for a refund or accept a 10% discount on a future purchase. I chose the 10%.

I believe there is a US law that all gold has to be marked. I also got a letter from JTV on an amethyst ring that wasn't real amethyst.

The jeweler can do an acid test on the metal to determine what karat it is. Juat takes a minute but that is strange it is not marked as such. I would feel uncomfortable not knowing.

There are three people asking questions as to why their rings are not stamped. I have a feeling that since the rings are very thin gold that is hollow and that is baked, it does not meet the Italian gold requirements so it couldn’t be stamped there. Just a guess. Guess two is that the small factory neglected to stamp his and QVC got a good price on the lot because of this oversight.
HERE’S THE ANSWER FROM THE WORLD GOLD COUNCIL.” In many other countries, including in Italy, India and China, jewellery hallmarking is voluntary. Gold manufacturers apply their own marks to their creations, to attest to their origin and caratage. This practice pre-dates the modern Italian state in the traditional centres of gold craftsmanship of Italy, such as Arezzo, Vicenza, Valenza or Bassano del Grappa. Here, the manufacturer’s identification mark is composed of a number and the first two letters of his region, as for example, 1 AR for Arezzo. In Switzerland, hallmarking on jewellery is optional except for metal watch cases.” https://www.gold.org/about-gold/about-gold-jewellery/gold-hallmarks

@Molson : That's a good decision. But if you see the gold is sticking to a magnet is still gold, but also contains nickel, and nickel makes metals attract to magnets. I learnt this by watching a jeweler video on YouTube.

I have some magnets that are very strong. I checked many rings in my ring boxes. Not a single one was magnetic, either gold or silver. I'm talking over 200 rings here, 50 are gold. So either I have just lucked out and bought nothing but nickel-free jewelry over 25 years, modern and antique, or the jeweler in that video is passing out poor information.

This thread keeps sticking in my mind. If you still have this ring, take it to a jeweler and they will verify the gold content. They can add the 14K stamp for you. This is if you really want this ring, if its too much bother just send it back. For those that get a ring sized and the K mark gets cut out, be sure the jeweler has replaced it for you.
