I've been steaming for years.  I've had 2 Haans and loved them.  One of them the part were you added water would remove and you could also use it as a handheld steamer.  Problem was, the hose attachment was plastic and the little nubs broke off and it wouldn't stay on.  That was a burn hazard.  Something happened to the company and I could no longer get replacement parts, so I gave up on them.

I currently have a Bissell steam cleaner that also has a vacuum on the front.  Even though I still vacuum before I steam the floors, something always gets missed, so it's handy to vacuum it up as I go.  Those steam mops will NOT pick up anything sitting on the floor which is why I vacuum first.  I wouldn't count on the vacuum part on the Bissell to get it all although I'm sure many do.  The downside of the vacuum on the front is that the vacuum part is in the way of steaming like under cabinets unless you can fit it in sideways.

One of the good things about the Bissel is that it comes with a 2nd floor attachment for using with some Swiffer wet pads.  The bad news is those pads have been discontinued; however, you can still use any Swiffer pad that fits.  I just use the dry Swiffers when steaming the sunroom floor because I don't ever want to re-use those pads.  It's where the litter boxes are and sometimes the kitties alse upchuck there too.  I'm really not interested in using a Swiffer pad that has solution in them anyways since that's why I use a steam cleaner in the first place.

I did look for a stand-alone hand-held steamer but haven't yet bought one.  It seems from reading the reviews that the hose connection on all of them is the part that fails.

@bonnie f

We bought this:

Shark Steam & Scrub Steam Mop w/ Steam Blast and 6 Pads - QVC.com

at the time QVC had the lowest price ...only $139.98 and free shipping.

Yes, QVC often Does have the lowest prices and we got 6 pads!!

We love it and always use it on our downstairs laminate floors with no problem as well as our upstairs tile flooring.  We do not have hard woods.
