Re: replacing interior door knobs

We replaced every door knob with oiled bronze lever door handles.

The levers slide right up my sleeves........or right into my pockets as I'm walking by, and pull me to a jarring halt

Oh my yes, that is so irritating. That would make the levers a no for me.

Thanks again for all the great replies. I really appreciate it. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

The levers sound nice but if they get caught on your clothes when walking by as Desertdi said, I think I'll pass LOL.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

My neighbor just replaced their front door handle and he said all he could find was a lever.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

I recently read somewhere that some parts of Canada have mandated that door KNOBS cannot be used anymore. I thought it sounded so silly, but in looking into it, I found it had something to do with making things accessible to handicapped. I only have knobs, so have NO idea whether I would like levers or not. By the way, if your door hinges show, isn't it best to have the handles match the hinges?

Well, they've been in our home for a year now and have never caught my sleeve or anything else on them, and we have 11 doors x's 2 = 22 chances for them to reach out and grab me Smiley Wink

Re: replacing interior door knobs

I've had levers in all of my interior doors and closets for the past 17 years and haven't caught myself on one yet! Oh yea there still are lots of regular knobs out there. Maybe if you just look at Lowe's and Home Depot you won't find them, but in a specialty store you will! We have a privately owned store nearby called Classic Hardware. They have everything you need for door hardware! We furnished our entire new cottage with all of its hardware! Exquisite!

If you are "fancy" you might consider ALL the hardware (latches, screws, plates, etc.) if you want that to match as well.

It is not fancy to have all hardware match, it is really a necessity. You can NOT change the color of the door handle and NOT change the hinges, strike plate, screws, etc. It is the equivalent of wearing a black patent leather pump on one foot and a sneaker on the other.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

When our home was built in 2012, levers were installed as a standard feature. I've never had a lever catch on my sleeve.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

My first house was an older one and I replaced them with glass knobs. My doors were painted.
