replacing interior door knobs

Hi Everyone -

I would like to replace all the door knobs inside our home as they are the very old and worn. They might be original to the house LOL!

Currently they are all a gold/brass tone knob style. Our doors are a honey color and I was wondering what color do you think would look best? gold/brass, nickel or bronze?

Is gold still in style? I like all the colors so I can't make up my mind.

Also, do most people have the door KNOB style or do you like the LEVER handle?

Thanks Smile

Re: replacing interior door knobs

What is the vintage, age, style of your home? Are your door solid or paneled? What other metals are already in your home such as cabinet hardware and exterior knobs?

And, do you like a warm patina such as gold or prefer the more modern look of nickel?

By the way, the biggest trend this year at High Point Furniture Show was the return of gold and brass with a patina (not shiny).

I think dogs prefer the lever handle.

If you are not very young, you might consider the lever handles, as they are helpful if you ever get carpal tunnel or arthritis in your wrists or hands. Also, consider what other kinds of metal you have in your home, like light fixtures and faucets.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

Thx Everyone

my home is a brick rancher. Doors are solid honey color. Cabinet handles are bronze but very old and worn so they will also be replaced when we remodel our kitchen in the future.

Exterior knobs are gold as well.

I'm 46 so regular knobs are still ok but I'm not against the lever style.

I do like the gold look as we have it now but I wasn't sure if that was out of style.

I guess as usual it just comes down to personal taste. Was just curious since replacing door knobs isn't something you do very often and trends change.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

Last summer we remodeled our bathrooms, using all oil rubbed bronze fixtures. We changed the interior door knobs to the bronze levers. Love it. I'm nearly 80, but it's not just the ease of use I like. Like the look. Put on a new front door lock in the same color. I think it's what you like that matters.

Definitely love our Lever Handles! Even with hands full, I can open them!

I have arthritis so when we remodeled our home we got the levers and , yes, it did not take our Weimaraner very long at all to figure out how to open the doors - from then on I never had another private bath.

Re: replacing interior door knobs

I did that in my old house along with replacing all the hinges. I think I'd go with the gold regular handle.
