Re: king comforter for queen bed

Using a king comforter on a queen bed without a bedskirt is problematic because the length head to foot of a king is the same as a queen so you do not have any extra coverage at the end of the bed.  I guess if you have a solid footboard to the floor, that would solve the problem, but otherwise...?  Also, you will only have an extra 9 - 10 inches on each side with a king vs. a queen.  Is that enough to reach the floor for your bed?

mominohio has hit on many important points to consider when putting a king comforter on a queen bed. I agree with her that a king comforter on a queen bed hits that in between area that never looks quite right, especially if it is a tailored comforter.

Also consider if you are buying a comforter set, that you will receive king pillow shams. I have a queen bed, and due to the height of my mattress, use a king comforter set. I don't care for the look of the king shams on my queen bed, but I can live with it.

Probably the most annoying aspect of the king comforter set on a queen bed is the bed skirt. My mattress sits high, but not the bed frame itself so I had to adjust the king bed skirt to fit correctly on my queen bed frame. That process is a real pain. I haven't come across any king comforter that would have the proportions needed to be able to eliminate the bed skirt.

Re: king comforter for queen bed

@springers---That is why I like King-size on the bed, the corners at the bottom are always on the floor, I pin them up a bit.  My Dh is twice as big as I am and I want to be covered Up.  Queen-size doesn't cut it,he rolls over and I am not covered, the King keeps me covered and that is more important that the "LOOK" of the fit.  Sometimes I can find a single King-size flat sheet and will buy that.

Re: king comforter for queen bed

Hello. I always buy a King size comforter and quilts for our Queen bed. It avoids one of us (me) running out of cover during the night when DH rolls over and takes the covers with him. Smiley Frustrated

No problems with the size at all. It all works out just fine so I hope this helps you out. Also, when the bed is made up, the sheets don't hang out from the underneath of the quilt.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone have a king comforter on their queen size bed?  I am looking at getting my son new bedding, and thinking a king comforter on  queen size bed, may be the solution to not have to deal with a bed skirt.

I have used a King comforter and sheets on my queen sized bed.

I don't want a king size comforter on a queeen bed. It's too much overhang when I want to hang my feet out.

Re: king comforter for queen bed

I only use a King on my Queen bed.  The full/queen sizes just don't have enough over hang.  Love the extra length with the king.  Using king down comforter and duvet cover now.

Re: king comforter for queen bed

For me @CoastalGal this doesn't work.  One time I let my DH gal me into to getting a King for our Queen because they were the same price.  It was always bunched up on the floor, it looked terrible and always got dirty .

Re: king comforter for queen bed

There are two queen beds and a king in our home.  One of my queen beds easily takes a king comforter but the other does not.  Depends on the bed frame and size of the mattress.  LM
