Does anyone have a king comforter on their queen size bed? I am looking at getting my son new bedding, and thinking a king comforter on queen size bed, may be the solution to not have to deal with a bed skirt.

I always buy a king for a queen bed. That way it flows to the floor - hate seeing the bed legs - and I don't have to fuss/remove/wash dust skirts anymore. Same for double size bed - I buy queen size for those.

I tried one once and thought it overpowered the bed, so I returned it and got a queen.

I always get king sized comforters and blankets for my queen sized bed. Only with the sheets I get a queen size.

I almost always have to buy king size for my queen bed as my mattress is so thick that the typical queen comforters/quilts don't cover the entire mattress. Have done it for years. Thank goodness there was that option or I would have had to have all my bedding custom made which can get pretty expensive.

Yes. I have always used a king size down comforter with a duvet on my queen
bed. It's saves my husband and I from fighting over the covers.

For me, it depends on the bed. One of my queen beds is high enough it can take a king and one isn't. I would measure the width because you can always adjust the length by folding it back. LM

I have purchased king comforters for queen beds, but the uneven fit buggs me. Bed skirts are a real pain, and boys won't deal with them....I had 3 sons!
I finally decided to get true bedspreads for all the beds. Many catalogues have spreads and even oversize ones if you have a high bed.
Currently I'm liking chenille spreads. They are lighter weight so they go over the comforter and you just push them over the edge at night. I like the stripe ones best.
The colors available now are bright and modern, and these wash very well..... we have cats for kids now.

I don't like a king anything on a queen bed, generally speaking.
First, if there is a pattern that would normally mark the edges (lots of quilts have patterns like that), they don't sit/fall where they should and look odd.
The king neither acts as a quilt/comforter or a bed spread, but falls in between, and to me, looks sloppy.
In my opinion, quilts and comforters are designed to be used with a dust ruffle and look best with them. Depending on the type of bed and it's height, this may not apply.
That said, all beds, and the thickness of mattresses are different, and it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that just the right king comforter would look appropriate on just the right queen bed, but I have yet to see such.
I like the suggestion of a bedspread if you don't want to deal with a dust ruffle or bed skirt anymore. It will look more finished.
I haven't had a bedspread since the 1970's, and I'm wondering that with all the different heights in beds and mattress sets, if it is hard to find one these days that falls exactly to the floor, not too long, and not too short.

I prefer a bedspread to a comforter - now a days they don't make the comforters big enough, and when you have a king size already there is no going up. Our king size bed is the style where you can't see the box springs so you are supposed to tuck everything in - our comforter is only big enough to tuck on one side, so I tuck the side that you can see from the door. Sad how skimpy they make things anymore. My next cover for that bed will be a spread.
