On House Hunters, people often comment on wanting lots of windows, lots of natural light. I do as well. However, most of my neighbors keep their windows covered all day, every day, while I keep my windows uncovered all day, every day. Our street is residential, 20 houses; the only traffic comes from residents and their visitors. I've been miffed about it and I'm looking for comments.

Maybe they don't want their furniture to fade...

Or if you live in a HOT climate (like I do), you don't want extra heat from the sun...

Why would you be miffed?  To each their own.

When it's very cold in the winter I keep my blinds closed.  And even in milder weather if it's very sunny I close the blinds.  The sun can cause fading and damage to my couch which is right in front of my living room window plus it causes glare on the TV.  Same with the blinds on my deck door - I use my laptop at the dining room table and depending on the time of day the sun makes it hard to see the screen.

So therre are many reasons to keep windows covered.  Not to mention personal choice.

Personally I only like a southern exposure.

I have never liked a bedroom full of natural light, the rest of the house, sure.  But if your neighbors are gone all day, they don't want people peeking in their windows

I quit watching HH years ago, it's ridiculous.   The buyers turn down a house for interior paint colors.

I cannot imagine being worried about my neighbors window coverings.

If you are able to do as you wish in your own home, why does it matter what others do?

Why don’t you bring it up in conversation sometime with one of your neighbors? Make light of it . You just might get your answer .

Maybe your neighbors work, are gone during the day and don't want potential burglars to be able to vIew their possessions.

No matter what their reasons are,it's their business. Really what do you care ?

I prefer to have coverings on my windows. I have had blinds forever in my house and closed them at night and opened them during the day. I closed them when it got hot and the sun was shining thru---I have noticed that in many of those shows--window dressings are not a thing---I have always had coverings in every place I have lived in.
