Your space seems dark so I'd put a sofa with a large mirror or a grouping of framed mirrors then put a lamp at each end of the sofa to reflect light into the space.

Lamps might fill some of that space and give a whole new thought to what should go there. Hey, how about single shelves for books, that can be put on multi-levels, to fill that area?
@qualitygal you are a girl after my own heart! I am definitely doing bookshelves somewhere. We were thinking in the alcove in the kitchen for that but I hadn't thought of doing it in this room instead. Hmmmmm....

@CAcableGirl2 wrote:@Laura14 I'm all about the mirrors too. Just make sure it's large enough for the wall. You can get some really reasonable ones at Home Goods, or Kirklands. Since I don't see any windows in the picture, a mirror would help to bring light into the area.
If your plan it to keep the decor simple, then go big. There are some fairly inexpensive large canvas art pieces at many of the home item stores as well. They are light and easy to hang. You could add an oversized clock too if you like those.
@CAcableGirl2 I actually found a clock in Michaels that I loved! I am so happy that my instincts seem to be matching what you guys would think to do. And you are right, there are no windows or natural light in this room other than the opening which does lead to an outside door past the kitchen space.

I think murals are so over.

@151949 That sounds beautiful. My mother did a mirrored wall once. She had to get creative about keeping it clean but it really was pretty.
More votes for mirrors. Check!

I wouldn't use a mirror unless I had something interesting or beautiful to reflect.

I am falling in love @Hoovermom! I did find another one on that site that is about half that and probably more practical for what I would use it for.
We were going to do an Ikea run at some point for bookcases but we obviously need to stop in our local Pier 1 store first. I never do because it is in a strip mall I never go to. Must add that to the list...
@lolakimono you are good! Thank you!
@Hoovermom Ditto!
