I think Victorians are beautiful.
We looked at one once years ago and it had 4 floors! The top was kind of scary looking down. It was a tiny room with a little window looking out the front.
The back had a breathtaking view of tall trees and a lake.
It was on a charming cul de sac street, a small neighborhood.
The house was a fairybook house but not really at all practical with little ones-stairs and stairs. I could imagine us all getting lost and not being able to find each other even though the rooms were not large at all. You also couldn't imagine where you would put furniture-especially a couch that fit into the first floor.

That is really interesting. I wonder how in the world a castle or house can sit in the middle of a body of water!
Any architects or construction experts here?

@CANDLEQUEEN I think age has a lot to do with choice.
I grew up in a large Victorian home with large verandas on two sides. I loved that house.
When I got married and bought my first home, I insisted on a kitchen you could eat in and an upstairs. We bought a side split and I loved that house.
My retirement home is a bungalow with a walkout basement. Everything I need is on one floor. Doors are all wheelchair accessible, laundry is on the main floor. I could live on the main level alone if I chose to. This is now my favorite.

Craftsman, followed by Mid-Century Modern...but I live in a Contemporary. My tastes have changed a great deal since we built this home in 1986!

I don't think I could pick just one.

I should also mention that in addition to my aforementioned Cape Cod, Saltbox and cottage favorites, I occasionally (very occasionally) see houses of modern design that capture my interest and have long been enamored of some loft type spaces.
