Agents would list that as a Duplex.

I am referring to two houses stuck together, like in this photo.

What is the term that you use?

Like @Mominohio said, to me this is a duplex.  I grew up in Ohio, FWIW.

BF calls this a "semi-detached" house.

I have never heard it called "semi-attached" nor twin homes.

@sidsmom

This is a very common type of housing, for various reasons, in the cities and the suburbs.

I don't know that people WANT to live next door as in attached to someone else, but there are advantages.

One is that you don't have to maintain four sides of a house, so when there is painting or siding to be done, the cost is less.

A two bedroom "starter" home is over 200K, and many single family homes start at 400K. That is too much on a teacher's salary, for sure.  I am one who tries to follow the rent/mortgage under 30% of your income, though not everyone does.

There is the idea of an association as well, so depending on the area there can be snow removal, lawn maintenance, etc. that is included in the HOA.

I would rather live in this type of housing than an apartment, but that is my preference with a BF and pets.

Where I'm from, in Western NY, it's called a duplex.  But here in the Philadelphia area, it's called a twin.  Took me a long time after I moved here to figure out they were one and the same.

@suziebee1

Interesting.

What do you call this, when it is attached but not identical?

I would call this an Add On
