Washer/Dryer Recommendations Requested

[ Edited ]

My dryer died on me and the part that is needed doesn't even exist anymore. The repairman even tried to get a refurbished part, but was flat out of luck. So I will be purchasing a new one (and probably a matching washing machine!).

I am open to recommendations for or against a brand you have/had. Mine was a Samsung, top of the line, with front loading for the washing machine. Beautiful set but I can't tell you how long I have had it; don't recall when I purchased it. So I am not sure if it lasted as long as most do.

Anytime a workman has come to do a repair over the years, they all say I must have a big family because indications are that they were both used a lot. I have come to the conclusion after hearing that a number of times that I am either very dirty or very clean. I'd like to think it is "very clean" as my description. Smiley Happy

I do know that I want to do away with the "under" drawers....the pedestals you can get to raise your machines up about a foot, thus providing storage. I have so much storage already in my utility room that the pedestals are not necessary. However, having them raised on the pedestals has meant I didn't have to bend over when putting clothes in and out of the machines.

Anyway, if you have the time and want to relay your experience with what you would designate as the worst brand for washing machines/dryers or the best brand for the pair, I would be interested in reading your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Washer/Dryer Recommendations Requested

After 2 top of the line, Consumer Reports top-recommended HE W/D I am done!

I am back to a traditional top-loading, as much water as I want W/D.  My clothes and linens are so much cleaner and bright.

When this set goes I plan to get a Speed Queen top loader with no fancy settings set.

Buy whatever is on sale and has the least features to malfunction.

I've had GE w/d for the past 20 years (2 different homes) and have found them to be very reliable.  I would not get a front loader washer.

@Abrowneyegirl I totally agree on the least number of features that could go amiss. Mine has a lot on the washing machine; and I guess it has a lot on the dryer too. But I have found that to be true on other things, like a blender. I don't need nine levels for blending. ha!

@kaydee50 Is GE the brand that used to advertise that their repairmen were bored because they didn't have many calls to go fix their machines? Or maybe that was Maytag?

@Katcat1 Thanks! I have good things about Maytag in the past. Then I heard that so many companies merged, I wasn't sure if they are all using the same parts now, just different names? Do you know if they were bought out by another company or still solely owned?

I have had a top loading LG pair for a year.  Totally loving them and the washer takes a BIG load!

@ECBG Oh, that is a good point. I want a washer that will take a big load. I used to have a refrigerator made by LG; it was very good. I should look at their washers/dryers.

Thanks!

Re: Washer/Dryer Recommendations Requested

have had a speed queen for almost three years now and love it.

it has a 7 year warranty, is a top loader, and i can adjust the water settings. they are pricey, but worth it. super quiet also. i have the matching dryer.
