Re: Want my old washing machine back

To get more water in a top load washer. I put clothes in the washer first then I turn it on and when it starts to fill and clothes and somewhat wet I hold down the start cancel botton .then start it again so now clothes are heavier so washer will fill with more water I do this all the time.

My Maytag is around 35yo. I don't know how much longer it will be around. Still works really well. But I hat that feeling of 'uh-oh-what-was-that-noise-?' or finding water on the floor beneath the washer. Anxiety abounds.

I bet it was made in the USA, products use to last a long time.

Re: Want my old washing machine back

I bought the top of the line front loading Maytag washer and dryer....MISTAKE !!  Worst appliance I've ever purchased in my life !  I wish so bad that I had gone through the expense to repair my old washing machine - the ones they make today are awful !

Re: Want my old washing machine back

Sarah panda we had a approximately16 year old whirlpool gas dryer break yesterday and repair man said it was 420.00 to fix it. He said it needed a coil and we should replace the ignighter allso we were debating on fixing or replacing it and repair man said well.your dryer still looks to be in very good condition and I have read including this post this  morning how many people say they wished they fixed an older appliance and then repair man said the new machines all all electronic and they last like 6 years.and you could easily get another 5 or 6 years out of this dryer so the choice was easy. Fix it.so he ordered the parts and they will come in tomorrow and he wil! Come Wednesday at 1030 and fix it.

I know what you mean--had my old washer for prob close to 20 years before it bit the dust---got a new HE one with very few bells and whistles, but it didn't have the center piece that agitated the clothes--that dang thing always twisted up the long sleeved shirts into a rope that wrapped around everthing---and took FOREVER to do a load.  I did want my old one back----

Re: Want my old washing machine back

In that article that I referenced in my earlier post, it said that the old way of washing was to have clothes sloshing around in lots of water.  The new, more efficient way (so they say) is to just dampen the clothes and then the back and forth movements of the washer that makes the clothes slap against the barrel are what now does the trick to get the clothes clean.  I don't believe it for a second.  I would gladly pay a higher water bill for more than a half inch of water washing my clothes.

Re: Want my old washing machine back

All these comments from people who may  have to add water to...get ready for it...wash thier clothes in their new WASHER!!!!!

Seriously.

My new Whirlpool connects to wifi and my phone.

Who needs that?

How about concentrating on WASHING the load correctly?

Sheesh.

People wonder why I rail about gimmicks.

It's because EVERYTHING today is a gimmick.

Are we that gullible????

A washer connected to my phone?

No thanks. My brain still works enough to figure out when to wash and when to unload the machine. Thank goodness.

I liked the large wash tub and the removable agitator in this new top loader, so I could overlook the internet connection nonsense. So far, it works well, but my clothes don't get "dirty" dirty like they did when I worked my outdoor job and wore denims every day.

I try not to do too much toil that gets me "dirty"!!! And I NEVER wear denim if I can avoid it. I'm retired.....comfy clothes only now for the most part!!!

@wakefield64

And with the front loading machines and low water levels any wonder the clothes dont smell clean so now people are buying and adding all these additional chemical fragrance products to take away "the smell".....that shouldnt be necessary if the clothes were REALLY CLEAN---SMH!

@Kachina624

I have an old top loading washer too and baby it to keep it running too.....These newer washers seem to be made for conserving water INSTEAD OF GETTING CLOTHES CLEAN 🙄
