Borax can also be used as an alternative to flea bombs to get rid of fleas and their eggs. It doesn't do it in a day, it will take a couple weeks and you have to be diligent.

Sprinkle the borax on your carpet and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then vacuum it up.

Make sure you empty the canister or bag. Do this for about 2 weeks and that should take care of the little critters.

If it's your pet that is bringing in the fleas you'll have to address that issue too by combing out the fleas and dropping them into soapy water where they will drown.

That 2 prong approach works well, and no real nasty chemicals.

Why wouldn't you just wash the dog with flea shampoo?

Because it is a natural way of dealing with them without chemicals in the house or on the dog.  Many people have sensitivities to chemicals, so this approach solves the problem without causing another problem.

In the days before frontline my weim got fleas and I took her to the vet - he washed her in flea shampoo and said that is the only way to be sure you got them all off and their eggs.We then had our house bombed to get rid of them and their eggs there.Never had fleas again.

Re: Using borax to repel bugs in your home

@151949 Fleas are like other forms of lice or the like.  You do have to treat the whole living space and the source, but they can be reinfected if the come in contact with them again like in the yard or from the kennel or somewhere else.  They can also live in the car you carry them in or anywhere really.  Many people keep chickens and treat the yard to kill the fleas in the yard along with ticks, so they are rid of them in the area where the dog visits versus the flea coming and going every time they go to the potty.

Flea baths are great but they can causes issues with pets that are sensitive and people.  On the farm we had chickens that controlled most of that, but not everyone can have chickens or afford chemical control, plus we always think we have a better way that the customary norms.

So I take it from your posts you don't use anything like frontline. Your dog so your choice. As soon as they came out with frontline i was happy to sure my dog wasn't going to get fleas or ticks anymore.

You don't have to have pets to get fleas!  Fleas swarm just like locusts.   They invaded a very upscale area of Tampa one year and people could not even go outside because of them.  A major Dept store in the area had to close and fumigate because fleas were in the dressing rooms.  They can come inside on you or your clothes as easy as they can come in on a pet!

That's disgusting. It can happen with bedbugs too. Neighbor down the street had gotten bedbug infested (house) and they had to evacuate everything and leave for several months! Everthing they owned had to be decontaminated, if possible, or thrown away completely. They now have a house entirely furnished with new everything...even their old frig was infested. eewww

@151949  These were cats. Not fun to bathe cats. :-)

The borax procedure takes diligence but it's natural and it works.

I have cats, so baths don't work well, but you can get fleas in your home without pets.  They are a natural species that roams the yards.  My cat got something similar to Frontline each month when they were indoor/outdoor cats, but now the are older and we live in a neighborhood with dogs that roam, so I don't let them out anymore.

Boric Acid is great for killing bugs esp the dreaded Roa.... word, but it is POISONOUS to humans and PETS!

@on the bayAll you need is a little drink cap with some in the backs of your cabinets.  It isn't lethal like that.  There aren't any skulls and cross bones on it.
