Nellie's laundry powder in shampooer

Recently I switched to Nellie's powder for washing my clothes and I'm very pleased with it. I know some use it as a cleaner in their mop water, so I was wondering if anyone had used it as the cleaner in their carpet shampooer?

I'm very sensitive to perfumes, and the new shampooer I bought came with cleaner that is very scented. Isn't the point of shampooing your carpet to remove odors? Why make it smell? If it's truly clean there shouldn't be a need for perfumes. Normally I just use water and, literally, a drop of Dawn or white vinegar in the shampooer.

I wouldn't use it if it is sudsy...could clog your machine

I would use what is recommended, maybe look for unscented product?  Also, like you mentioned warm, hot(?) water with white vinegar...you'll need more than a drop though!

Re: Nellie's laundry powder in shampooer

It's a Bissell Revolution Pet, the newer version.  I'm sure the cleaners are meant to cover pet odors. I have house broken ... they all go to the forest at the end of my backyard....indoor / outdoor cats. So no liter box odors, or dog scents.

The cleaners smell good. But I know either during shampooing, or soon after the smell will give me a headache. Haha, I use a little Dawn, especially if using the Bissell Lift Off for spot cleaning, and a "healthy" splash, never measured it but, maybe 1/4 cup or so vinegar to 1 gallon of hot-as-the-tap-will-go water. The new one has a heater in it, I believe.

I was just wondering. I plan to keep my method since it works. I also use Dawn for mopping the kitchen, great for getting up grease, i cine back and mop wuth just hot water to rinse, and the floor is slick clean after. The caTS have a hard time getting started running when playing, or intentionally run and slide on their backs across the kitchen. 😁

Re: Nellie's laundry powder in shampooer

I have a newer Bissell as well, and I like the smell of the 'soap' they had with it, but honestly, I use less than one cap full (and this bottle has one of those really skinny caps) sometimes and that is just enough 'smell' for me.

Most often I just use hot water. I think unless one has very soiled and stained carpet (and we don't as we don't wear shoes in the house or have pets that have accidents), the soap just gets in the carpet fibers and attracts dirt.

If I do use a tiny bit of the soap, I go through a rinse process for the carpet.

I think I read somewhere on here another Poster did use Nellie's in her carpet shampoo'er.  I remember the thread because I was considering using Nellie's for that purpose also.

The Bissell shampoo IS SUDSY.  You have to backfill with cold water very slowly.

If you can tolerate the smell of VINEGAR it works really good at cleaning carpet. I had a sick dog...number ones and number twos all over. It was the vinegar that got out the stains. Yes it smells like vinegar for a day or maybe two but that goes away completely.

1 gal hot water

1 tbsp liquid dishwashing soap (add this last, avoid foam)

2 tbs white vinegar

1/4 cup peroxide

On really bad spots I just douse that area in straight vinegar like you would a pre-cleaner.

After reading your reply I looked for thar post and found it. This is what she said,

" Forgot to add....Before I got the Better life, I used Nellies detergent in my carpet shampooer to clean my carpets and also in my spin mop water to do my tile floors. Leaves no sticky residue on my floors and my carpets stay cleaner much longer." --poppinfresh

@poppinfresh  Do you have any ******'s on using Nellie's in your shampooer?
