Wow how do your walls get so dirty? I've been in this house for 18 years and mine aren't.

They might not LOOK dirty, especially if they are not white, but I guarantee you, if you took a bucket of water and rag, and washed down just one room, you'd be shocked at the color of the water when you got done.

It doesn't matter how 'clean' you are or if you live alone. Heating systems create a lot of dust and dirt, even electric. If you ever open windows in your house, pollen and other particulates in the air get in and cling to everything, walls, curtains, carpets/rugs, upholstery. If you cook at all, or burn a candle, even now and then, it really leaves stuff on the walls that you can't imagine until you wash them.

I have a friend who just paints every year or two, and all she is doing is painting over dirt. Yuck.

I am still in the cleaning out closets and drawer stages this year. I plan to do my big scrubbing of walls, curtains, carpets and upholstery in March this year. We have a graduation, and I want to clean a little later than normal, so things still look top notch when the guests come in May.

I always get my 'spring' cleaning done in the winter, as the outside work here starting mid April or so, is much too demanding to try and do both then.

Well I didn't get very far. Started in the bedroom and one thing led to another LOL. Decided to empty the closet and wipe it down which then led to sorting out what to keep/throw and the same with the dresser. Also took down the window blinds to clean as long as I was at it. I think today I will shampoo the carpet in there and then call it one room done -- top to bottom!! What a great feeling though.

We have forced air heat and whether you "see" it or not, the walls get dirty just like any other surface in your home.

ETA: love the clean smell of the Spic and Span. Not over powering like some of the liquids, just a nice clean scent.

The walls in my master bedroom are a burgandy color. Because they are a dark color, I can see the dust settled on the walls, especially above the heat vents, behind the doors and behind furniture and around the windows.

I feel silly dusting my walls, but I have to. We are getting ready to repaint. I have chosen a light neutral color. The dust will still be there, but I won't see it.

I wash my power room walls and kitchen walls on occasion as they do get dirty. We usually repaint the first floor of our home every two years or so.

Thank you for this thread - and the previous one! My walls need to be cleaned & I have not been sure what to use.

I stopped in a Ace Hardware on my way to the grocery store & picked up Spic and Span Powder and a bottle of Jubilee, too. I hope both work miracles!

Yea! I know you will be pleased with the results! Spic and Span also does a great job on floors.

I bought a huge bottle of liquid Mr. Clean before I discovered SS. I will use that to clean my outdoor patio.

I always say that once you have washed the walls and see how dirty the water is when you dump it out you will always wash the walls. Plus the air in the whole house just feels lighter and cleaner with clean walls.

I love when I have put the effort into cleaning and the wonderful fresh feeling throughout the house. I keep the house relatively clutter free and clean anyway. Less big cleaning jobs. Easy to get ready for company. I need to get into closets and the basement. However, take care of a year old GS all week long for most of the day. Not much time on the weekends. Jealous of all you ladies getting all this cleaning done.
