It could be a room in a gentleman's club back in the day.  It is set up with two conversations areas withe back to back chairs, maybe for planning sessions? Meetings?  It's a man's room for sure and very well appointed.  I'd like to meet the gentleman and hear his stories.  I picture him sitting reading with a glass of brandy.  Love the three knots!

The art @lolakimono posted immediately brought to mind a piece that used to hang in the Embarcadero station of the SF Bay Area BART station.

It was called "Legs" and was a pretty yellow-gold color when first installed back when macrame' was a big deal. Eventually, the oily brake dust and other dirty, grimy "stuff" discolored it and it was removed after about 40 years.

It was quite magnificent at three stories high. It was made of a flame-resistant synthetic material called Nomex. Sadly, the BART folks didn't take cleaning into account when they purchased and installed it.

A macrame sculpture titled "Legs" by Barbara Shawcroft hangs at the east end of the Embarcadero BART station on Friday, April 26, 2013 in San Francisco, Calif.

Just a sad looking room....I don't like anything about it, including the "art." It looks like a "staging" room where folks are holding leftover furniture until the Good Will truck arrives to haul it all off.

I think the "knots' work with the decor and style of the rest of the space. I have no idea if there's a story there. Sometimes we choose items just because we like them & they work in the room.

I wouldn't hang knots like this in my house as art. My least favorite things though are the tan cube chairs and the rug. The other pieces of furniture are ok. I think the darker color items look expensive and luxurious.

I'd say that belongs to a retired sailor or sea captain.  Most definitely a male.

Have no clue to the story of "knots" but will say it works well with all the leather and other natural fibers/fabrics in the room design!
