Friends of ours put in flooring called "Life Proof."  It looks like wood, but I don't think it is wood.  It is really pretty and I don't think much can harm it.

We had engineered wood put in our den - never again.  We have been so careful in there, yet there are scratches and a few dents.  Plus if a window leaks or something spills, it gets ruined.

I tend to like wall to wall carpet.  It is less expensive, cuts down on noise, and comfortable to walk and sit on.

Good luck with your decision.

Yes. And it's warm, especially up here in the North if home has no basement beneath living areas. We've had most types of flooring over past 30 years...ceramic tile, carpet, hardwood, engineered hardwood, area rugs. Hard floors are cold, which works in FL but not so much up here. They also echo sound. Carpet is much more comfortable for elderly knees and reduces sliding and tripping. . The home we bought has ceramic tile in bathrooms, engineered hardwood in foyer, powder room, kitchen & laundry, and wall to wall carpet everywhere else. My favorite is the carpet which is very high quality with thick padding. I think hard floors are for the young. 😄

We have wood on the main floor except for the kitchen, powder room & laundry room which has tile.  I have area rugs in the rooms....family, living & dining rooms but never had an issue with tripping or falling.

I have vinyl "wood" in the basement and it has held up well.

We had Coretec LVP installed in our entire downstairs about a month ago and love it. We had hardwood prior to it but due to a flood in the kitchen from the dishwasher, the entire downstairs had to be replaced. The LVP was not inexpensive and rivaled some hardwood estimates we had. The gap at the door frames was a concern but the contractor had someone who installs the LVP all the time and knows how to fill in the small gap with wood shims, paint to match the frame, and you can't even tell there was ever a difference. Love the LVP; spills are a breeze to clean up and I can use my Swiffer on it and it is super easy to clean.

@Trailrun23  I also had flooring in a home replaced with Coretec LVP and it is beautiful. Hardwood could not look any better.
