New W/D in last two months. Have not had any problems with old Maytag duo or with the new LG models. I have tried both powder (Cheer) and liquid (Gain) and always wash and rinse in cold water. Old was a front loader; new is top load. The secret is to use very very little soap - and I am not washing extra dirty work clothes or boys' football/baseball dirty uniforms anymore. No extra rinse cycles for me. Takes too long and uses too much precious water. Never have had any problems with soap residue/lint etc.

Happened to me with a new HE washer when the house had hard water. No problem at all with a water softener.

I do think we need to use less detergent, unless you have a dirty job,working outside that type of thing, i really like tide hygenic clean ,in white bottle ,not any pods.

<sigh> I've been using vinegar instead of fabric softner for a while and also do a second deep rinse.

I just read online this week that the vinegar can cause the seals and some hoses to rot more quickly. Guess you can't win.

I went back to an agitator washing machine but can set the water levels on it as well. Auto, medium, high, etc. HE one and I only use HE Tide free and clear.

To me a machine with an agitator cleans the clothes better and sometimes I want more water than what a auto gives you. I like mine and no regrets.

After 15+ years, my Maytag's transmission went. My new Maytag 5.2 cu. ft. large capacity arrived yesterday afternoon.

I have now done 8 loads of laundry from whites to a heavy denim large load. Used HE Tide Free & Clear as well as Final Touch Fabric Softener. Everything came out beautifully...Used different cycles, some with extra rinse cycle.

Having had a noise issue and lockout issue with my GE Florida washer a few years ago, I was hesitant to get a new washer. Extremely happy with this one: quiet, easy to use guide ( once I realized I had to put the clothes in first ), and see through tempered glass top.

If you are short, better get long tongs to reach clothes on the very bottom ! If I shrink, I will get a small stepper.

Most of the country has hard water and what that means is it causes small mineral deposits to accumulate on laundry which makes it dull and dingy looking. Over time those small mineral deposits start to collect tiny amounts of fibers (from other items of laundry) and also detergent molecules to create a mess. Clothing fibers start to lose integrity, fade and become old looking. Using vinegar in the rinse will break up the mineral deposits and free the stuck on crud that give clothes that dingy/residue laden appearance.

I have a small stool by the washer that I have to step on. I still have to reach using every inch of my fingers to reach the socks. I don't find the washer user friendly at all. Plus it makes so much noise that I try and only wash clothes when someone isn't trying to watch TV in the family room.

Wonder who designed this washer. It couldn't have been a person who had to use this awful HE washer. I will never make the mistake and buy a Whirlpool again.
