wrote:I understand what you are saying. Our repairman actually recommended the SQ to us on his last repair visit to fix the Cabrio. He said he would do what we wanted-it was going to cost an unholy amount of money to fix -i forgot what part went out. He only repairs appliances and stood to lose a repair job if we decided to purchase new. I appreciated his honesty. Because of his stellar reputation in our community, and because of what we feel was an honest recommendation, I now call him before I make any appliance purchase. I trust him more than a salesman. I was hoping because it is still Jan. that you might still be able to find a 2017 model of SQ somewhere. I would hate to think that they were destroyed because they didn't fit energy efficient standards. My heart just sinks when I think of all the money people will be spending on these "toss and go" appliances. Young people are never going to be able to catch up as they will always be buying disposable appliances and older people won't be able to afford them on fixed incomes. In our area, you almost need to take out a loan to go to the laundry mat.
No, I called around. Only one base model 2017 washer and no dryers to match.
Like I said the Maytag should be fine as we won't live in this house, more than likely, more than 5 to 7 years. I'll leave them and then buy something else where we move.
The only thing I didn't like about the SQ, when I looked, is I can't easily wash a king comforter. That feature I like about the washers with no agitator. I have a Company Store down comforter I wash monthly and I like the large tub for that!
Google reviews on 2018. They are not stellar. Thanks again. I am glad you have someone you can trust.

@winamac1 .. I've always purchased Sears Kenmore Washers and Dryers. My washer has a delicate/handwash cycle.

@winamac1 .. I just checked Consumer Reports ...... LG and Samsung washers seem to be at the top of their list.

I hate hate hate my Speed Queen, had it less than a year (and cry that I spent $1000 on a crappy machine). The only good thing about it is it fills up with water. Everything else is bad: machine is EXTREMELY noisy, like an airplane taking off; spin cycle is a joke. Clothes come out very damp and it takes at least three times longer to dry than with my previous crappy Maytag moldy short lived machine. 30 minutes washing, 60- 90 minutes drying. Also machine is small so you can't do big loads ( like bedding).

And you must have a 2017 or earlier model? I read good things about the Speed Queen, but I did read they were noisy.
I like my Maytag so far. I do want something without an agitator to wash that King Down Comforter I own. I am sorry you don't like yours, but I can see the reasons why. Noisy washers and not being able to wash comforters can be a negative. I do think many love them as they are better quality than most washers out there. The 2018 is a bit more expensive too.
I think I'm happy with my Maytag choice after almost a week.

wrote:@winamac1 MAYTAG. Maytag has been around for many years and very reliable. I owned one when I had my townhouse and had absolutely no problems and then I had one in an apt. I rented. Different models offer different features. I am still inclined to prefer the top washer with the agitator. You can still have a gentle cycle with it.
I've owned a Maytag washer & dryer for 6 years, & both died. They've been the biggest pieces of garbage I've ever purchased- one headache after another. I can easily say that I hate that brand.
I just (finally!) bought Speed Queen 2017 models- they arrive tomorrow. I can't wait!
You won't regret your purchase! I purchased Speed Queens about 3 years ago when we moved into our current house. They aren't fancy but they get the job done efficiently. I had a repairman out a couple of months ago to repair our Samsung refrigerator and when I told him I had Speed Queens he said they were the best you could buy. The best thing about Speed Queens is they are actually repairable and not throw-away like so many other applicances.

Did you try calling the Speed Queen company? Maybe they can help you get the 2017 models. I spoke with my local store today about my delivery, & they said the 2018 models won't ship for 2 more weeks. They still have 2017 in stock.
Btw, I bought the non-computer models....that's what I wanted.
I called the SQ company a few months ago to ask some questions. That's when the sales associate told me about the new 2018 models. The ONLY reason they had to change was because of gov. regulations- they had no choice.
The new models may still be a 1000% better than the other garbage brands on the market.
Good luck- keep us posted.
It's all the government regulations ruining our appliances. When an individual can't determine for themselves how much water to use in their washing machine in order to clean their own clothes, that's a sad day. I have 2014 Speed Queens and wouldn't give them up for anything!

Sad thing is all of these glowing reviews for speed queen are going to evaporate over the next year or so once reality on these new machines sets in.

@sueeichYou are so right. I also have a 2014 washer and dryer......it is the best. The good thing about SQ is they are repairable.
