Family vacations meant taking our girls to amusement parks, the zoo, and the beach.

I liked the environment at the beach, but never got in the water or sat in the sun.  Mainly I liked being somewhere I wasn’t likely to meet anyone I knew.

I absolutely love my part of this farm, and the view from my front porch.   I don’t need to spend money or waste time looking for the perfect place to be; I came home to it from the hospital over 64 years ago.

Oh, boy, I have so many fantasy escapes, ha.  A remote seaside cottage in Cornwall...

But failing that, I love the idea of combining mountains and crystalline lakes, with lots of woods.  My favorite landscapes are places like that, in central and northern Arizona, North Carolina, and in the Canadian and American Rockies.

The "Hooked on Houses" blogger showed a darling cabin that fits the above description in Lieper's Fork, Tennessee--

Fun thread, thanks, @jeanlake .

Surrounded by forests, mountains, lakes, and animals.

Plus excellent Wi-Fi.  ;-)

@feline groovy Good point -- I don't have to have posh or fancy -- but I do love my comfort  creatures, WIFI, cell phone reception, good TV reception and washer/dryer.

I would love living near a really good used book store.

I've gone over photos and words a few times. So lovely. It's apparent many know exactly where to go to get refreshed or they're living in their happy places. So nice for you.

I'll take a cabin on a scenic lake (with a dock of course) and a beach side bungalow with a big wraparound porch right on the private beach....I can dream! Smiley Happy

Lane leading to the simple cabin. This is my hub's happy place, land we've owned with 4 other families since 1994. Nothing upscale. It's rugged, an hour drive from home and 160 acres of strip pit land. Slightly hilly but great hiking land. Metal cabin, solar powered with a big, bunk room. The guys work hard to keep it basic and simple. Our kids and now grandkids are enjoying this land.

My dream would be to split half the year in Sedona, AZ and half the year in Cape May, New Jersey.

We've vacationed in Sedona twice, but I immediately fell in love with its beautiful coral mountains reaching into the beautiful blue skies!  The town has a haunting Native American spirit, along with much of its culture.  I truly felt a connection with this area.

Yet, I'm also drawn to the ocean, its always been a calming and soulful place for me  We've vacationed there almost every year for close to 20 years.  It's a quaint little town with lovely Victorian inns and architecture and a charming lighthouse that you can climb to the top of and have a marvelous view of the entire area.  You don't even need a car while there, you can walk everywhere, or bike like we love to do.  It's a very relaxing and homey place to be.

I couldn't choose between these two places, so decided I'd need to split my time between the two!

The ocean doesn't draw me in but lakes (like the Great Lakes) and mountains do.
