Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

We've had good luck with GE.  15 years in our home in NV, 6 years here in Chicago.  No problems.  When they need replacing, I woud get GE again.

Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

I liked my old Whirlpool and my new Samsung, although I have to cross my fingers that the Samsung isn't a lemon.

Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

OP, you might as well close your eyes and go eeny meeny miny mo because whether you get a good appliance or a lemon is a crapshoot.  I had a Samsung for years, never a problem but got rid of it because it was just too small.  Now, I have a year old LG french door and again, no problems, but you'll see recommendations on here to stay away from both of them.   You can get a lemon in anything today or you can just as easily get a good one.

GE is out of the appliance business, sold it to a Chinese company.  You may still find them in stores, but it's a done deal for GE.

Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

We have a Kitchenaid side-by-side that's now 17 years old.  We've had one repair on it and that was when it was only a few years old.  I can't remember what the part was - some kind of valve that, according to the repairman, was a "known defect"!  My DH said "Then why isn't it covered by warranty or why wasn't it changed before we bought the thing?"  No answer to that.

No problems since, unless you count not one but TWO of my cats biting through the plastic line to the water and ice dispenser.  (This was when they were each small and could squeeze behind the darn thing.) Woman Frustrated

However, I'm not a fan of the side-by-side (in fact, I've come to hate it) so I'm also going to think about buying a new one.  I just hate to spend the money, when this one is still working perfectly fine.

Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

My new one is an LG french door stainless with a drawer in the center.  I love it!  It replaced a top of the line all stainless GE Profile....gave it away after about 7 years.  We have a much older refrig that we have had for many years in the garage (buy so much produce it requires two refrigerators). Nothing fancy but, it just keeps going like the energizer bunny.  Appliances aren't made like they used to be....to last!

I love my Samsung French Door Fridge. The only “issue” was ice got hung up in the door dispenser which I got out no problem. A piece of ice got cross-wise which briefly held up dispensing the ice. Mine has the pull out drawer too.

Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

LG makes a good refrigerator.  I have one even though it is called a Kenmore Elite which I purchased at Sears 4 years ago.  Consumer Reports agrees too.

Re: Refrigerator recommendations?

I'm not sure it matters anymore because it seems everything is built to break or wear out quickly. That said, I guess I'm partial to Whirlpool...
