It's lovely and as far as the complaint as to where do you put the food? Formal dining does not encourage a lot of serving dishes on the table. Usually there is a side table or plates are made up in the kitchen.💐

I hate oriental ginger jars.  Somehow they manged to insert themselves into every formal arrangement.  We need a national movement to line them all up and let kids with BB guns commence target practice.

There!  I've wanted to say that for a long time.

@Kachina624 Great idea to round them up but please, send all of the blue and white ones here to live with their many kin in my house!  Woman Wink  Blue and white, especially ginger jars and fish pots/garden stools, are my favorites!  And Spode dishes.

@Sooner  We'll split them, you take half and I'll take the other half. Can you imagine not liking ginger jars. Oh well, I guess it takes all kinds. For instance, I dislike most any vestige of southwest decor... Woman Tongue

Exactly. Or, the other possibility, which I think someone mentioned, is that part of the display, for example the ginger jars, is removed during the actual meal and replaced after the meal is done.

Quite over the top, and and I believe it might belong as a Wes Anderson movie table setting, if the wall were painted a vivid shade instead of the yellowish-grayish beige.

It could also be helpful so guests wouldn't have to see each other very well.

Take away the tall arrangements it’s just too much. Much too much. The table isn’t big enough for all that *stuff*.

The alleged 'festive season' is soon underway...

A formal dining room finds itself the scene of vibrant Christmas splendor, including bright blossoms, magnolia leaves, and porcelain painted with the fruits of the season.

@stevieb  Absolutely gorgeous. I love every bit of it.

@stevieb - I also love it! It reminds me of a English tea room DD and I frequent.  Smiley Happy
