I really like it all but the open shelves in the kitchen.

I do find much appeal in this house. The archways are outstanding, the decor lovely throughout. I like the living room but I feel it needs more warmth. The entry way is very inviting and the ceilings attractive. All in all very pretty.

Love the archways (esp. the ceiling in the entryway -- gosh, what a cozy, welcoming feature!), the millwork, the beamed ceilings, that fabulous clock, and the lanterns (as opposed to the chandeliers, which strike me as fussy). Her use of a framed round mirror as a tray to collect and display a small, richly framed photo and a little silver vase (or is it a candlestick?) of flowers is one of countless examples of her eye for charming detail. Not a fan of the task lamps in the den and the living room, or the similarly utilitarian frame on the (too oversized) painting over the fireplace in the den.
What I admire most about her style is her restraint, which allows the home to be warm and comfy yet uncluttered. Really enjoyed this, @Oznell -- thank you!

I like your discernment of her 'restraint', @vsm . You're right, and that's what I like about it too.

@Oznell This is a lovely home. Not overdone and comfortable looking. I love the front door and the arches. The ceiling compliments the wood floor and is not too dark. I love the big glass jars. The bedroom reflects the rest of the home. There are several things I would change in the kitchen but outside of that....it seems very livable to me.

I love this space.
I have barrel ceilings in my foyer; they are an interesting architectural detail.

Wow, @faeriemoon , you have barrel ceilings. Every tidbit I've heard about your house is so architecturally tantalizing. I bet it is a gem!

Thank you, @Oznell . That's so kind of you to say. I love architectural elements and tried to make this house visually interesting by incorporating them wherever possible.
The story (Reader's Digest Condensed version) of this house is we purchased it unfinished. It had been built over 20 years ago and construction was never completed. We bought it about 7 years ago when it was just a shell. It took about a year to complete the interior, but I pretty much had free rein because there were only studs on the inside. I was even able to to move those around as long as everything remained structurally stable.
Probably more than you wanted to know, but it's the reason I often chime in about having some of the features in the places we talk about here in the Home Forum. ![]()

I love the bones of this house....especially the arches and ceilings. The decor style is nicely done but I'd have to completely refurnish it as it's not my style and is lacking in the color department.

Oh, how lucky, @faeriemoon -- that is the ideal situation. To be in on the house at that stage, and be able to put in your own ideas and the features that you know to be pleasing and, really, "custom", as it were! It might have taken awhile, but you are reaping all the rewards now!
