Re: Question About Needlepoint Thread

Usually it tells you somewhere in the description how many strands you will be using. Is this cotton floss? Or one of the heavier weight threads?

When I did counted cross stitch I think I used 2 or 3 threads of DMC floss.

If its more of a yarn type, one would be sufficient.

I would only pull out the number of strands you need at a time and set the rest aside.

Thank you @riley1   I finally found the # of strands I need in the legend.  I posted it a few posts up from this one.  I need 6 strands.  It's like cross stitch thread.

Re: Question About Needlepoint Thread

I finally decided to go ahead and start the needlepoint, so I separated my first strand.  Boy, it's hard to separate without tangling.  I got it done but don't look forward to doing that with every strand.  When you use more expensive (DMC or wool) thread, do you have to separate the strands and put them back together?

Re: Question About Needlepoint Thread

I have never, ever, in my whole life separated tapestry yarn.  Just not done.  But this kit is not using tapestry yarn.

Assume you are a pro with the usual separation.  From the photo it did look pretty twisted.

You know that you can "do" the kit with regular embroidery floss?    Surely it would cover 14 gage.  I once did a piece with silk.

This is a fine mess 😤

@Still Raining   I've never separated floss.  It's been a long time since I've done cross stitch, so maybe I had to separate that but I don't remember.  This was quite difficult to get it separated into six threads only to put it back together and use all six threads.  If I substituted the threads with DMC (going by the chart that @LdyBugz  posted) would I have to separate that floss?

I wouldn't know how to choose the colors using something besides the DMC that I have the chart substitutions for.

Edited to say:  I just Googled it, and I would need to separate the DMC floss, too.  I guess I must have done that when I was cross stitching 25 years ago.  I'm going to watch a video on how to do it.  I'm sure there's an easier way than what I was doing.
