They are virtually indestructible. Just be careful of heat, They dont have to be sealed every year like granite and they are antibacterial also. I clean mine with just windex, the yellow bottle and they are still like new 15 years later.

@Violet Fields

.

You should have no difficulty finding a plethora of information on the characteristics and care of quartz countertops online.

I just bought some new microfiber cleaning towels so I'll use those. Thanks for mentioning that.

Thank you all so much for all your helpful replies! Thanks for all your recommendations. I'll have to get the cleaners a few of you mentioned. In the meantime it sounds like soap and water is good. The countertops are really beautiful. That's great to hear that they're so durable!

The brand of quartz that I installed three years ago has a list of approved cleaners. I mainly use my dawn on microfiber or equal parts vinegar and water to wipe down. When worried about germs Lysol wipes are approved, but this is infrequent for me. Heat is the enemy. I was cautioned about having extreme cold on one part of counter with heat on another. I probably over cautious but I always have trivet or wooden cutting board handy.

My lime green quartz counters, made in Israel, at the time, are still as beautiful as they were when we installed them, 8 years ago. They clean easily and I only use water or soap and water.

I never put any thing hot on them.The only damage has been the times my dh dropped a heavy item on the 90 degree edges, around the sink area.

However, the color runs through and through, so it is not noticeable. I can only feel the chip edges when I run my fingers around the rims.

I would not use any thing else if I ever had to redo my kitchen, they are the best!

@meem120We have had granite counters for 35 years most of that in one house. It is good quality granite and I doubt if we've sealed them 5 times in all the years of hard use.

Granite is slab material, quartz is manufactured. It's just what you like best. But we've never babied ours and they look great--dark in our first house, white in this one. Both are great, but we've not found good quality granite to be in need of upkeep.

Re: Quartz Countertops

One of my doctor's office has a quartz countertop at the reception area. It's a very dark charcoal gray, nearly black, and it sparkles like it has diamonds in it! So beautiful. Every time I go there I just stand there and gaze at it. Like looking at the night sky.

@Sooner   Same here!   I sealed initially but then nothing after that. Still perfect.  Needs no babying whatsoever.

Quart countertops are very durable. Better then granite. No special treatment is necessary. Don't need trivets or coasters. I put hot pans on it. No problem. Avoid slicing or chopping. I use a board. Had these counters 5 years now. Love them..no need to bay them
