Re: Pretty and Traditional Formal Dining Room

I like the wall and ceiling colors but the rest of the room is too fussy for my taste.

Room styles are so much a matter of taste. One is not superior to another. Traditional speaks to some while rustic speaks to another and etc. etc.

The chandelier is frankly, horrible.

Re: Pretty and Traditional Formal Dining Room

Loved reading all of the comments! We purchased a new home last year,,,Currently using her for most dining room space as a den... But I am still conflicted ....I would love to make it a dining room ....not as formal as the one in the picture, but definitely a dining room

Re: Pretty and Traditional Formal Dining Room

The new homes around here don't have a dining room just a huge kitchen which I would like. I use my dining room maybe 2 to 3 times a year. If dishes & silverware doesn't go into the dishwasher I have no time for it. My Aunt's kids loved pool so she got a pool table in the dining room & when she wanted a table she had plywood cut to fit over top of the pool table & had dinners. It was a win win for her.

Oh my gosh, I love it!  Maybe a formal DR isn't used much these days, but I still like to see it in a home that can afford one.  Thanks stevieb.

@Patriot3. It is used as much as people want to use it.  Like I said before, ours isn't this formal, but is I guess you'd say "formal" and we use it a lot.

We use "formal" or casual dishes and such, paper plates and paper towels, or whatever the mood strikes us.  I have never ever had someone say they weren't comfortable, and the table is big enough for people to not feel squeezed.

It's wonderful to get out of the kitchen, not see the pots and pans and sit and laugh.  So if you have one, USE it!

My husband nearly fainted the first good ding in the table but I told him (MANY years ago), if a table doesn't have a few dings and scratches, it is a table that hasn't had enough fun.  Stuff should be used.

Re: Pretty and Traditional Formal Dining Room

When we built our house  I insisted on a formal dining room.  It is my favorite room in my house.  I have my grandmother's china.  I could just look at it all day.  Coffee or tea just tastes better out of a real china cup.
