Pinky and Blue Boy

[ Edited ]

IMG_1938.JPG

@Oznell @SportyShorty07

Since high school age, I have loved Pinky by Thomas Lawrence and Blue Boy by

Thomas Gainsborough.

In Woolworth's, in the 1960's, I found small, framed prints of the pair and hung them in my bedroom.

Later, when I learned how to paint in oils, I copied the prints, enlarging them on canvas, and had my paintings framed.

I think that I was 18 or 19 when I painted these. In my first house, they hung in

the living room.

Now they are in my bedroom and were the inspiration for my bedroom colors.

Wow @Enufstuff,

and you paint in oils too! I thought they were copies of the original! You are an artist!

Wow, you are very talented.  Beautiful work.

Have you been to the Huntington to see the paintings?

There is also a modern version of Blue Boyby Kehinde Wiley at the Huntington.

We only had Blue Boy since that was all Mom did.  I tried to get her to do Pinky but she did not want to spend the time on the project, afghans were  her thing.  Brings back wonderful memories seeing the two of them together the way they should be.

You are amazing, @Enufstuff !!   Your oil painted versions of these two classics, incredible.   And with your artist's eye, you positioned them either side of a lovely wall pocket that incorporates the pink, blue and cream of the paintings themselves.  And the touch of the lacy bed below-- perfection!

Pink and blue, in all their variations, are colors I love to see together too.

I don't have "Pinky" or "Blue Boy", but I do have a vintage print of another painting in a similar vein by Thomas Lawrence,  "Master Lambton".  It was a wedding present given to my parents-- one of their few items that I have.

Here's an image of it from online.  I doubly love it, b/c little Master Lambton's coloring reminds me so much of my mother, who was fair with black curly hair and hazel eyes.

I don't have much red in the house, but my little dining room has some richer color accents, so Master Lambton presides there.   (Oops, misspoke-- it is "Master",  not Lord, as I originally wrote!)

@Another new name Sue   Thank you.

No, I have not been to the Huntington.

I didn't know that there was a modern version

of Blue Boy.  I'll have to look it up.

I grew up with a copy of Pinky in our along with a ceramic depiction of her. I could stare at her for hours.

@Oznell   Thank you very much. After doing several  landscapes, I tackled Pinky and Blue Boy.

Your painting of "Master Lambton" is beautiful.

Such a lovely, innocent, pensive expression on the boy's face.

His clothing is not a bright, garish red. It looks rather like burnt sienna or terra cotta, a softer look than red.

It is a wonderful remembrance of your parents, especially your mother, and deserves a place of prominence in your home. It must be perfect for your dining room.
