I love the look, the colors and patterns, however why do people want to hang rags on the walls?  LOL!!!  Some famous designer said this--and I agree!

For my house, to live with, it's plantation shutters and all the light I can let in!  All the way.

It depends on what you like.  I love fabrics and texture but don't want heavy drapery on my windows.  I have valances and swags over blinds.  Our friends recently built a new home.  They retired and are downsizing.  They built on a hill out in the country.  Beautiful home.  They have many windows but no blinds or drapery in any of them.  Not even in the bedrooms!  I simply couldn't live like that!  I could imaging waking up in the middle of the night and Freddy Kruger staring in my window.  LOL!

Last home was in the country (very rural) and the bedrooms never had either blinds or curtains.  Our homes were far apart and there were only blinds on the windows that faced the road but that's it.

I moved to an over 55 community where all homes here were built to specs of 4 models available and homes are all on top of each other.  I had blinds put up but only curtains in the 2 bedrooms.

It's very very open concept and not sure I like the color I had painted the kitchen/great room and probably will repaint in the next year so I don't want to put curtains up until I figure out what colors I will change too.

Not my style at all.  I am fond of white sheers and, if needed, solid colored drapes.

I don't like the clash of patterns...nor do I like anything at all in the rest of the room either---dont like the floors, the plants, and the furniture---it's all just a mismash of things that dont coordinate at all!!!

Re: Patterned Drapes & Valances

This works for me in this setting because there aren't a lot of other patterns going on......
