Re: Opulent Living Room...

[ Edited ]

Timeless, elegant and indeed opulent. Furnishings look comfortable, too.

Reminds me of a larger scale version of my in-laws LR, right down to the built-ins. FIL was a commercial art director in NYC.

I will take this room just as it is and maybe look to replace the portrait, although I love the grand scale of it.

Since I normally like traditional style, and definitely like the colors used here, I had to analyze why I wasn't taken with this room.

Think it's because it's all one-note, and comes across as a bit fussy. Pie crust tables, etc.  Too many small objects.  The room seems to need some fresh air.  If even one element had been from another era, like the art work or mirror, I think it would have more vitality.

I love the blue and cream plaid fabric on the occasional chairs, and the little shots of raspberry, especially in the striped pillows.

It's pretty, but not my style and there are too many different patterns for me as well.

I see several individual elements that please my eye (such as those striped chairs), but overall I think it is too monotone.  Everything sort of "disappears."  Even what is supposed to be the focal point, which I'm assuming is the painting over the fireplace, doesn't make an impact.

Maybe it's the room arrangement, or maybe even the photography (angle, lighting, not sure), but I think someone might want to take out all the furniture and put it back in another arrangement.

This is from the same home and already looks cleaner and less fussy:

It seems cluttered to me.  Maybe it's the ceiling, all the different patterns or something.
