I like the look but not crazy about the amount of extra effort needed to keep clean.

Since it all seems to be decorative its ok.  I think its a waste of good space for cupboards.  I have a very small decorative shelf above my kitchen window thats enough for me.

The open shelving, those light fixutres and certainly all that hanging wire are pretty unattracive. I'd venture to say most people would be constantly hitting their heads on that low hanging fixture. Oh, and please, enough wit the chalk boards.
