Of all the places we've stayed, the one I can't forget is...................

In 2010 we took a trip to Disney World.  It had the best big white bed cover ever.  It was so nice.  Quilt.  That's the word I wanted.  I'm looking to find one just like it for us.  First try I think I've found it. Surprise!    At one of Disney's hotels.

But how about you?  Any place you've stayed at on vacation, that had something memorable about it?

Quite a few years ago, my parents and I visited a remote place in Colorado where dad and his friend had fished as teens.   It's called Platoro and has a beautiful stream emptying into a reservoir, a sketchy road to get there and mountainsides of gorgeous wildflowers.

It was a mining town and now has a sorta lodge and what they laughingly call a "motel", cabins that kind of tilt.  They we very clean but basic, probably to suit fishermen.

Our cabin had a door that would not shut tightly, let alone lock.  We pushed a chest against the door.

This was prime bear country.

I spent the night wide awake waiting for a bear to bust through that door.  Luckily we had no food with us so we survived the night.

There was a Bed and Breakfast- sprawling peaceful, streams and ducks; fluffy comfortable beds, books etc and when you came in they greeted you with some kind of golden liquid-a port? a sherry? I don't know-it was warm and not too sweet. I have never been able to find something like that again.

I tried a few times asking at liquor stores not making much sense. Came home with one or 2 and it tasted like medicine so that wasn't it! Wonderful memories.

On a trip to Belgium, I came down w/serious menstral cramps.  While my cousin went down to the hotel bar to get some whisky for the cramps, I laid down on the bed which was very soft.  So soft that it swaddled me like a newborn.

The next thing I remember was waking up a few hours later cramp free w/o drinking the whisky!  I went down to the front desk to ask what kind of mattress the rooms had.  All the mattress in the hotel were "down feathered" filled! Smiley Surprised

When I returned to the States, I could not find any "down feathered" matress.

Tahiti....

The ocean is very blue, very warm (80°) & very clear.   So clear, no matter how far out you go in the ocean, you can see the bottom.

Re: Of all the places we've stayed, the one I can't forget is...................

We have stayed in hotels all over the world...some not so nice and most of them really nice.

The best place we ever stayed was the Sofitel in Athens, Greece.  It was connected to the Athens airport.

I booked months in advance for one night before our early morning flight back home.  I got a great deal of around $100 a night non-refundable prepaid on a special promotion.  What luck.

When we flew into Athens from Paros, we just walked right over with a line of people in front of us.  We were the last in line.

When it was our turn, the rooms in the rate catagory we paid for were taken, so we got upgraded.  What a room!

It was huge.  The  bed linens were to die for...all white, cleaned and fluffy.  The bathroom was big too.  The shower was about 8x10 feet all glass enclosed and was exposed to the bedroom.

I wanted to live in that room forever.  We spent the rest of our Euros in the Sofitel restaurant.  It was an great experience as well.

We got a deal on the room, but spent way over what we would have in the restaurant.  I felt like a princess.

In 1951 my parents bought a summer house in the mountains near a lake.  That place was where I spent a good part of my life for summer vacation. I can never forget all the friends I made, some became life long friends.  There was never a boring moment and I lived for summers.  Friendships have always been very important to me and the relationships I formed at the vacation place are why I can never forget.  My memories are treasured and so are all those who made them so.

FWIW......

I cannot find French Bread, melt in your mouth croissants & butter here in the USofA grocery stores (authentic French restaurants do not count) that taste like they do in France & Tahiti.  icon_exclaim.gif

On my 40th birthday 15 years ago I went and stayed at The Union Station Hotel in Nashville Tenn.  It was an old  restored Train Station that is now a  Hotel. It was beautiful. The bed felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.  All the staff where very friendly. The staff said it's suppose to be haunted. LOL... Don't know if it's true or not. But I did enjoy myself. So I went again on my 50th birthday.

First, let me just say I have been a fortunate lady and have traveled all over.   I'm thankful for that.

When I thought about it, the Fairmont Chateau on Lake Louise in Alberta Canada came to mind.   We were traveling with Tauck and our group all had lake views and top of the line rooms.  So beautiful, fancy and comfortable.   DH is an avid photographer and many times I will accompany him on his early morning shoots but I was never so comfy and could not bring myself to get up out of that bed!   I just asked him to please be careful of the grizzly's as I needed him to bring me a hot coffee later, LOL!   Gotta love him!!
