It makes me sad to read this.
@faeriemoon - It makes me remember why I like animals better than people. ![]()

When I first moved into my home in NJ, there was a rooster that crowed in the morning. As I worked, I don't know if he made noise during the day. The noise didn't seem to be that loud in such a quiet neighborhood.
I rather liked hearing him, lol.

@Venezia @faeriemoon Agree with both of you! Kill an animal because they are doing what they are supposed to do? I suppose if a dog barks the same think should be done? Sorry I opened this thread.

UPDATE: Breaking news - the rooster is gone. County zoning enforcement followed through and the rooster has been re-homed.
And no, it wasn't anything violent. Good golly, we never seriously considered doing the animal harm.
We happen to already have a BB gun and I was being a tad sarcastic in response to another's suggestion. Tsk tsk on me.
Thanks for all who responded! I enjoyed the perspective from everybody.
Until you live with a crowing rooster very close, and he crows all day long, and there is never peace at sunrise, you may not understand the thoughts that roll around in your head. It is maddening.
Happy crowing! Er er er er errrrrrr!!!! All day long.

@decaf wrote:@walkingal I'm a bit confused, are you saying that because the county site didn't mention anything about confidentiality, you didn't think it would become public record?
@decaf We found out that one of the residents went to our county code office and was able to get our names and address. We were very surprised they were able to get our info. I think that on the county on-line complaint section, they should state whether your complaint is confidential or it is public information. But they don't state anything at all about that. I complained to our county delegates, county government, and county executive about that. Haven't heard from any of them. So, we learned the hard way.
Since we're having other problems in our area, we've been attending community meetings. Problems concerning code enforcement complaints and confidentiality are very prevalent. Maybe with all of us complaining, something can be done.

@walkingal I'm familiar with what you've experiencing, our county acts the same toward residents. That you heard back from not one county person just shows they know they were wrong. Maybe they're afraid you're going to sue.
It sounds like it is a anonymous/confidential system if they don't have a disclaimer to the contrary on their website. I could be wrong but have a hunch that the clerk just gave out your information anyway. I would be furious. Our code enforcement has a disclaimer on the on-line complaint form. It states if you make an on-line complaint, your information is public. Maybe you could try sending an email to the Code Enforcement Director about what happened in your case, ask them directly what their policy is.
I hope with all of you getting together to fight problems in your community they'll take you more seriously and things start to get resolved. Strength in numbers! All the best to you, stay well!

I have lived with a rooster crowing all day in the neighborhood and I can tell you that it isn't charming, it isn't something you can ignore, it is simply torture.
And I can tell you I was not concerned about the well being of the rooster after about 6 months. And I am not ashamed to say it.

I'd be ashamed to admit that I ever wished harm on an animal simply because it was doing what was natural to it. But some people don't think an animal has any right to existence, it seems, if it impinges on a person's "comfort".
I guess that's why laws had to be made against deliberate animal cruelty. SMH

@Sweetbay magnolia - I'm glad for the rooster that it's been rehomed (hopefully still alive) and can live as God intended.
I was raised in the country and my dad raised poultry his whole life, so a rooster crowing? Nothing to me.
Cars racing each other, spinning around in the road, screeching tires? That's a whole other story. Humans can choose their behavior, animals can't.

Crowing at a rate of several times a minute, loudly is not acceptable in town. There are laws against here and they were enforced.
