Great comments!

@We rescue cats,  that's an intriguing insight, about the different shapes working together harmoniously in a congruent whole.  Had not thought about it that way, but so true.

The lamps in the LR are also the perfect height for reading.  Although, not a fan of most metal furniture, I like the shade of gray used.  The color in the print is surprising.

The hall table is surprising and I love the antique amoire.

Thank you for an interesting post!

This one doesn't appeal to me at all.  I can't even pinpoint what I don't like.

Re: NEW ORLEANS LOFT

[ Edited ]

I'm not a fan of grey so the first set of photos don't appeal to me. The rooms look nice and comfortable, and I like some of the furnishings, but just not all that grey. It's interesting that all the lamps are a similar height. I'm not sure I like that. My lamps in my living room are various heights.

I like the warm wood pieces in the second set of photos. Definitely more my style. The combination of neutrals is nice, but, again, not a grey person. I prefer a bit more color.

While I love gray, it's all a little too one-note for me.....especially the living room.  I really like a lot of the furniture and accessories though.  However, a lot of the wood pieces and several or the decor pieces are much too ornate for me.

@wilma ,  the lamp thing, fascinating, it depends on what you're going for, I think.  It's an old designer trick, to align the tops of certain items in a room, if you are trying for a kind of visual "calmness".

But it's not a hard and fast rule--  note that the smaller lamp with the beige shade in front of the curtain, is not aligned like the 3 others.  But the others are, and to me it lends a pleasing orderliness.

They do that trick with the tops of art work as well.  Very often in designed rooms, the tops of most, not all, major paintings will be on a level.  I like it, but then, I tend to like a visually quiet 'frame' as a starting point when decorating rooms.  Others might lean to more visual variety in the planes of a room, and that's fine too.

@Oznell

Thanks for the information. It makes sense. The placement of our major artwork pieces is at the same or similar height in every room. I have a few smaller pieces grouped at different heights.

Thank you for all your interesting posts.

Well, now, this is very interesting. I generally do not like neutral rooms, but this is very appealing. Perhaps it is the mix of both warm and cool neutrals, the mix of beige and grey?

I would still add a little more color in the art, especially with the bedroom wall art. I love the bold painting in the living room.

That sofa is a neutral but it reads as a pop of color. Very interesting! And I am always a fan of a plush comfy velvet.

This is very well done. More formal than I would style so it surprises that I like this so much.

I had a similar reaction to it, @bikerbabe - in addition to the deft mix of neutrals, the fine finishes, etc., it seems to be *more* than just the sum of its sophisticated parts.  He did create a "mood" that is pleasing and harmonious....

Overall, some handsome spaces with several elements I like, but several I don't. To me, perhaps he over-civilized the loft, as it reads more like a very finished apartment than like a loft space.
