Talented Gil Schafer's architecture/design firm built a rambling house overlooking Lake Champlain in Vermont.

This room has his trademark comfort factor, combined with mellow antique accents.

There's a glimpse of the beautiful lake from this dining porch.

From the entry hall, looking through to the formal living room with French doors opening onto the lake view.  While I like the living room, that cozy family room was my favorite!

Even the breakfast nook has a great view--

Absolutely love what he did here-- he put expansive windows in this hallway, giving light to the passage way that ends in a very inviting looking bedroom with fireplace...

It might be a new house, but it sure doesn't skimp on timeless 'atmosphere'.

Well, I just fell in love!  Isn't this a beautiful home?  I love the furnishings and the view.  What a gorgeous, peaceful retreat.

The home is stunning. The view is spectacular. I love the breakfast nook and the outside dining area. Both are cozy and inviting. I’m not sold on the print carpet in the first photo. I find it a bit of a distraction. I think the gleaming hardwood would have served this beautiful room well. The splashes of blue are a great focus for the eye. So, the carpet is a no.

Love everything except for the rug in the living room.  The views are beautiful and all the light in the hallway/passageway is perfection.

It's very nice with a beautiful view but I'd have to do some tweaking in that first living room.  The rug weighs down the room and feels bottom heavy to me.  I'd opt for a smaller print and add some additional coordinating prints for the pillows, throws, etc. to balance it out a little more.  I'd also add some color to that outdoor dining room.

@JudyL You said exactly what I was going to say the I would have said "that horrible red rug."  But that's just me!!!  What a wonderful room that would be without that rug!

@Sooner  - I love red and have touches of it in every room of my house.  For me, that rug stands out so much that that is all my eyes see.  I feel like it jumps out at me instead of blending in with the rest of the colors of the room.  If the rug were more neutral with touches of red in it, then I'd probably like it more.
