More tiring to sort papers than to move furniture!

Goodness, after two mornings of sorting paperwork, I feel more tired than I ever did after moving furniture.

It's amazing how those papers pile up over the years.  Not that you all haven't heard that before!

I know when my dad passed away last year I went through so much paperwork. He pretty much had already gone through everything but still lots of papers. I shred all day/night.

We need to get going through all our stuff so nobody else has to do it.

I need to do our taxes. Not looking forward to that.

Speaking of lots of paperwork I have all our tax returns for the past 43 years. LOL!!!

I can identify with that.  Managing paperwork is one of my least favorite things to do and it piles up so quickly.

I hate shredding paper and I usually wait so long that the shredder overheats and it takes that much longer.

@CelticCrafter  Keep your shredder from overheating by putting oil on some of the paper before your shred it. Yes, any kind of oil you have around the house. I use WD-40.

Dribble it lightly between the paper (ramdomly) and let it sit for 30 minutes or overnight. The paper will absorb the oil. Then, shred the stacks of paperwork as usual. You'll keep the blades sharp, the motor won't overheat and your shredder will always be well oiled. I only do this once or twice per year (depending upon use) and it doesn't take much oil at all. I've had the same little can of WD-40 for over 30 years.

It isn't messy when used between paper! Very easy and clever idea. (I do keep my shredder in the garage and shred unwanted junk mail before it comes into the house.)

Little trick learned while working for a Fortune 500 Company and using a huge shredder. Our maintenance men used to do this regularly. I thought if they do this on company equipment, I'm going to do it on our home shredder!

It works wonders when destroying financial documents, previous Wills and estate documents, old tax records, my mom's records after her Trust was settled, etc.

@Nightowlz I don't have that many years of tax returns saved, but we would have been married 50+ years and I do have lot of paperwork that old.  I'm working on shredding the unnecessary and I may even have to have it done professionally.  Just too much to shred.   I hope it is safe to do that.   Trying to get more organized and when I do it sure does make things easier.  Organized a lot of my huge supply of skincare/make-up today.

Re: More tiring to sort papers than to move furniture!

I do not let paperwork pile up.  Fortunately we have a professional shredder come to work at least four times a year and we can bring in our own shredding .   I take items that need shredded in to work as they are received and put in our shredding boxes that are stored for "shredding day", so i never have any to pile up.

Close to shredding day, I go through my file cabinet and collect bank statements, credit card statements, tax returns, etc that are old enough to dispose of and take to the shredding box.  I only keep 7 years of tax returns and one year of bank statements, etc.  Lucky me, I have no excess paper!  I would hate to deal with a mass of it.

@GingerPeach , this past recycle day I had five full blue bags of shredded paper.  Enough said!  Hateful job.  LM
