With our new home we went back to a traditional W/D
I am over the HE products.
I noticed on the underside of the washer lid that it noted "use proper amounts of detergent, most laundry problems are the result of not using enough detergent."
I always thought it was the opposite, using too much detergent caused problems.
Thoughts??

Experiment to see what works for you. I don't like to use excessive soap, it doesn't rinse out and leaves a residue. I also am not one who believes in using just a tablespoon per load.

Why would you not use the proper amount of laundry soap? I switched to Nellies soap a couple years ago and I only use 1 1/2 tablespoon per load as per instructions. But before I always used the stated amount. Same with my dish washer too. That machine is new and using too little soap really did a pretty awful job. Think the machines now days are more efficient, HE or not--congrats on your new home !!! Nothing like it !! ![]()

Love my Nellies!! It is the best.
I think a lot has to do with the quality of the soap and the amount of water in the drum. Or more importantly the ratio of water to clothes in the load.

@Abrowneyegirl--agreed. had a "normal" washer for 20 years til I replaced it a few years ago with a HE one---there was a learning curve I had to adjust too. Water levels were totally different as well as soap amounts.

I think it depends on the brand and type of your washer. It also depends on if you are using powder, gel, tablet, etc. I use whatever is recommended with the washer. When I purchased my HE model the amounts were different than the older washer.

I don't have HE appliances, either.
I avoid buying HE laundry detergent. Costs more, you get less and I still buy liquid detergent so I can control soap for small loads.

I'm another Nellies person. 1 tablespoon for a large load in a front loader. I also use Goat Milk Laundry soap from GMS. 1 tablespoon works great. No residue. Enjoy your new home and washer.

I use what is recommended by the detergent manufacturer. I add the detergent to an empty top-load washer then turn on to add water. Clothes go in while it's filling with water.

@Abrowneyegirl For me I think there's a fine line between too much and not enough. I try my best to lean on the side of less is more. However, sometimes inveriably I hit the WHOA a tad too much when all I see are bubbles, tiny bubbles.
Of course I also free hand the pour so go figure!!! LOL I do this b/c when I measure it I really think it's a bit much for the load. I have stopped using the powder because it does clump up and clogs up too.
