Since Nellies and the goat milk laundry powders have no fillers, they dissolve completely.

Who on earth would go back to the old style washer and dryer?? Who wants to waste excess electricity and pay more? Who wants to waste excess water and pay way more? Who wants to use so much more detergent and pay more for that too? The best thing I did, years ago, was switch to the new HE w & d. My clothes are so much cleaner and my water and electric bills are so much less!

I still can't get used to the laundry detergent not making bubbles and it's been how long?

@Abrowneyegirl  I use less.  My uncle was a consultant in the commercial laundry industry.  He said you should use quite a bit less than the recommended amounts. Of course, that was years ago, before the HE washers.   I also add vinegar to my wash, as it's acidic and should kill any possible bacteria (that the detergent won't get, regardless of how much you use).

we have a whirlpool agitator washer from 15 years ago. i use all free n clear and i only fill cap to line 2. i allways start filling washer with water before i add detergent then clothes. if i use to much detergent you will see alittle bit of soap around wash tup of washer so if you see soom soap in machine then you use to much. that how i started using line 2. when i used line 3 i would see soap left over and consumer reports tells you setergent is made so well now tat you can use less. hope this helps.

Vinegar is not an effective bactericide, especially one for staph and other potentially dangerous bacteria. I would not recommend it. Believe me, I'm a retired medical lab specialist.

Re: More or less detergent

[ Edited ]

Too much detergent ruins the washer - told to me by a repairman. I have the Whirlpool HE washer and I use 1 teaspoon of HE liquid detergent for a full load - and less detergent for a small load. Less is better!!!! I also stopped using the liquid fabric softener ---- as well as those dryer sheets. Sometimes I add a little vinegar or baking soda to the washer.

My husband does the laundry and he's really good at it, he says less detergent is better for the machine and to pre treat any stains. He also uses vinegar in the rinse cycle.

HE washing machines use less water --- and most liquid detergents are concentrated!!!!! That's why less detergent is best.
