I'm either the last person to learn this, or I've discovered a new trick. Either way, I'm glad to have found it. We have a very large mirror in our MasterBath, and it's been a booger to keep streak and splatter free. But then I accidentally found out that if you take a good length of paper towelling, saturate it with rubbing alcohol then let it dry thoroughly, it becomes a fantastic glass cleaner. I've used this one balled-up length of towelling for about 3 weeks now. All I do is rub down the mirror with it. It leaves no streaks, no lint and the mirror has sparkled all this time. I surely hope this hasn't been a fluke, as keeping that 7' mirror clean has been a thorn in my side.

Thank you thank you thank you.   The girls get so much toothpaste on the mirrors, I have no idea how they get any on their teeth.  Hairspray is another item they seem to get more on the mirrors than in their hair.  Much appreciation.

Moroco, if this works for you, would you please come back and let me know?  I'm curious if it's a bonafide good trick or a fluke. BTW, I have not tried the towel on hairspray.  My hair is super-short and I rarely use it.

Re: Mirror cleaning

[ Edited ]

I certainly will be back to give an update.  I have already pulled out my rubbing alcohol bottle to remind me to pick up another bottle before the weekend.   I can't wait to see if this works.  Have tried the newspaper and many other tricks but always end up with the blue bottle.  Will be back in touch.  Man Wink

Alcohol does work, but below receipe is better. It works even better if the mirror is not heated by having lights on. Have you ever noticed you can actually feel a streak? My bathroom  has enough light that I clean the mirror without turning on the lights, the heat from the lights cause the alcohol to dry faster and it drags across the mirror. If you are cleaning outside windows you should use this mixture

1/2 cup ammonia
16 oz. rubbing alcohol
1 teaspoon blue Dawn dish detergent

A cleaning on a cloudy day is best.

Thanks for this tip. I usually use newspaper and water as that is the only thing that works to get my mirrors streak free.

Wow the rubbing alcohol has worked wonderful for us.   I really like the fact that you use it dry.  Now I need to get my energy level up and do all the floor ro ceiling windows in the entire house.   Putting that on my honey do list.  Thanks for sharing this.  I have already shared it with some friends and can't wait to see how it works for them.

I have also written down the other great suggestions to try in various areas.

So nice of everyone to take the time to share things that work without costing a fortune.

Moroco, I was thinking about you today, wondering if you tried my tip, and if it worked for you.  Thank you for letting me know it wasn't just a fluke for DH and me!  I am sincerely pleased it worked well for you, too.  As I said before, discovering this was a happy accident for me.

BTW, I have decided to try this with a dry cloth instead of the paper towelling.

Best Wishes -- Mrs. G.
