I have cellular up down shades. I got tired of cleaning the blinds one slat at a time.

I don't have to worry about up or down or someone seeing in.

Check your blinds from outside when it gets dark to see if you can see in.

I am ordering cellular shades, top down/bottom up, today for 7 windows. Boy are they expensive. My first car cost a thousand less than these silly blinds. I live in a condo, not the Biltmore! Getting room darkening in bedroom and semi sheer on other windows. Of course a big part of cost is service since we're older and can no longer do many household chores. The designer came to house with her samples, did all measuring, and her installer will remove old blinds and hang new ones. I love the look of faux wood blinds, what my grandma called Venetian blinds, but I can no longer do the cleaning.

Could you go outside see what others can spy?  For upstairs I agree with slanting down.  But for downstairs?

@Still Raining

That is the right way to decide.  However, the best way is to get another type window dressing, i.e., like shutters which are not a pain in the rear to clean.

@SunshineCats ..............Yes there is a difference.  With slats down its privacy with slats up its to help keep direct sunlight out.

Test this.  At night try each way going outside to check the difference.

I get conflicting answers when I search anything and  everything!

But this time I would like to know which way the slats go on mini blinds for privacy from

people walking past or driving past.

Right now I have the slats pointing up and is that right?

Yes but if they very wide mini-blinds, they may need to point down. Do both, go outside in the evening and look at the room in question. You'll have your answer immediately.
