I get conflicting answers when I search anything and  everything!

But this time I would like to know which way the slats go on mini blinds for privacy from

people walking past or driving past.

Right now I have the slats pointing up and is that right?

There is no right or wrong way.  It's your preference.  If concerned, go outside when dark & check each way.  If you can see inside either position, the blinds were not made correctly.  Get a refund.

Top edge of slats facing UP inside your room.

If the window is eye-level then it doesn't matter if the slats point up or down. If the window is low to the ground, garden-level or basement, then the slats should be pointed upward. Windows on second floors or higher should have the slats pointed downward.

What it comes down to is if you can see them then they can see you.

Doesn't matter to me, we have wooden 1inch slat blinds in most of the windows and they are all equally a pain in the butt to clean no matter how they point.

@We rescue cats we are buying a home with those types of blinds.  What is the best way to clean them?

I have cellular up down shades. I got tired of cleaning the blinds one slat at a time.

I don't have to worry about up or down or someone seeing in.

Check your blinds from outside when it gets dark to see if you can see in.

I have mini blinds in two bedrooms.  If you can look up to see in, face the blinds down.

If you can look in by looking down, face them up.  Since my rooms are on the second floor, I face mine down.

@Ainhisg  I don't know that there is an easy way to clean them but I wipe them down with Dawn and hot water, then wipe them with white vinegar water-they are wood. I was once told to clean them with Pledge DON'T ever do that. And don't be tempted to use Murphy's Oil Soap on them either. Yes they were pretty but it created a magnet for every piece of dust and dirt in the world to come and live on those blinds.  This one of the worst investments I ever made in this house. They look nice but are a pain in the butt to maintain.

@We rescue cats thank you so much!  They are in the bedrooms (3) and one bath.  I don't know if they are real wood or fake, but they are white, and I'm sure...dirty.  An elderly woman lived there, and she recently moved in with her daughter, so they are selling the house.  My mom had these type blinds, and I swore I would never have them (dust catchers), yet here I am.  lol  It's too costly to replace them, since I have to replace the window treatments in the rest of the house...besides update both bathrooms and the utility room...and paint...  Well, you get the drift.  lol  Thanks, again!
