Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

Casuallady. I'm on the down side right as we "speak" remodeling my two bathrooms. I learned at the end of Dec that the big box stores offer this service. I jumped right on it. The decorator/designer is fantastic and was a huge help to me. I already had my contractor lined up and the two of them have been working together. I also went with the comfort height for the toilets, although my full foot doesn't completely hit the floor, I'll have to get used to that! I went with the higher vanity and I LOVE THAT! Have a lot of back issues and now I don't have to bend way down anymore. I even went with a one piece toilet for my bath and cleaning is a breeze. More $$$ but it's only in mine. I was dreading the whole process, but with the great gal at Lowes and my own awesome contractor, I'll only be in the mess a couple more weeks. Enjoy your reno, so nice to have.

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

We remodeled our two bathrooms about five years ago. They were the original bathrooms from 1958!! Our remodel involved taking everything out and down to the studs. We put in taller vanities (LOVE!!), the countertops are a Coriander-type material with integrated sinks (easy cleaning!), chose elongated one-piece toilets (easy to clean when you have 3 boys!!). In our hallway bathroom we had the toilet moved. I really didn't like that the first thing you saw was the toilet. We really are happy with the remodel. The one thing I wish we had done would be to install radiant/under floor heating. Both my dh and I had trouble deciding what to choose, colors, etc. We ended up going to a kitchen/bathroom design store. Our gal, Eileen, was so helpful, listened to us and helped us to stay within our budget. Their contractor and workers were great. They were fast, efficient and were careful coming and going each day. They estimated that each bathroom would take two weeks each and they finished right on time. Good luck on your remodel!

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

I have found that if you use a Lowe's contractor and there is a problem Lowe's will stand behind the work. We had the Lowe's contractor install a Pella French door and the install was not good. We called the store and the install manager came out the next day to look at the job. two days later we had a new contractor sent out to fix the sloppy work at no cost to,us of course. Don't know if all Lowe's stores are this good but we were satisfied. I would inquire as to what warranty lowe's supplies if the contractor they supply to do the work messes the job up.

Good luck casuallady! It's always exciting and yet a bit dreadful undertaking a remodeling project! Let us know how it turns out! Sounds like it will be beautiful.

We did put in a higher toilet in the second bathroom- fine for my DH and tall son, but at 5'3" my feet barely touches the floor.{#emotions_dlg.blushing} We also had grab bars put in the shower for safety, anyone at any age could lose their balance or slip in there.

Yes, I've been framed, I strongly second the grab bars! I have one inside my walk-in shower and a 9" one just on the outside to help in getting out! I hear you about the higher toilets! I, too, am 5'3" and only the ball of my foot touches the floor, only thing so far I'm disappointed with!

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

Had our final meeting with the Lowes' decorator and she was so nice and helpful. This was a new location for her but she really helped. The contractor seemed really high end and neat and helpful. His card actually had a picture of a beautiful log home on it. My only concern that we can afford him. Please keep your fingers crossed. We will get the job bid the middle of next week.

Be careful when buying from Lowe's. Everything is subcontracted. I would be cautious here.

But does Lowe's stand behind/guarantee the subcontractor's work?

I would make sure your handyman knows what he's doing. Your electric & plumbing need to be done to code.
