Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

Yes, definitely plan on putting in the taller toilet. Good luck with your remodel.

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

The Lowes near where we live is upgrading their service. We have the loghome, so it is a little different. We are excited! Thanks for the advice on the higher vanity and toilet. I'm still not sure about the white fixtures for us. I have almond in my downstairs bathroom with the neutral ceramic floors for almost 20 yrs, and still like it. It just seems like the almond against the light pine walls looks warmer. I will see what the decorator says. How much different in price are the higher toilets and vanities? I know I can look them up. Thanks again for the encouragement. A friend gave me the name of a handyman electric/plumbing, but not sure which route will be less expensive. Lowes hauls all the old stuff away. and also has a sign in the store for how much the installation is for each item. I am hoping to get a rough estimate on the cost today. A contractor and decorator will come to the house if we want them ($75.00) and that amount will be absorbed into the project. I hope the amount is reasonable. The bath and kitchen places are really high.

Be careful when buying from Lowe's. Everything is subcontracted. I would be cautious here.

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

Casuallady...when I updated my bath I did not want white and I had a beigeish stool and vanity top picked out but then I did a search on bathroom remodels and I saw several black and white bathrooms that i loved. I ended up with a white toilet and a white vanity top. The vanity bottom was black....I had a beautiful wallpaper in my bath that I did not want to take down...that is why I did the search on black and white baths....when I saw the finished job I was just thrilled with the outcome, it actually felt like a high end bathroom in a hotel, really!

There is not a huge walk in shower nor is there a spa tub but for some reason for me that white with the black just made the room pop!!

Good luck on the remodel, I am sure what ever you pick out will be nice. If you are able just do a quick internet search on bathrooms and you might find some color combinations that you like, it will give you a jump start.

My few experiences with Lowe's contractors have been a nightmare and they been a lot simpler than a room remodel. I'm going to re-do my kitchen soon and I'll be hiring a company from Angie's List.

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

If I had the luxury of designing my own bathroom I would definitely go with the higher toilet and vanity, and I would absolutely choose a walk-in shower!

I'm the caregiver to my 93 year old mother, who has very bad arthritic knees. It is very painful for her to lift her legs to climb into the shower, in the bathtub. For anyone who is planning on staying in their home into their golden years, this is something to consider. Also, make it big enough to accommodate a bath chair.

Re: Meeting with a decorator at Lowes !

We have an update on the meeting with the decorator at a our local Lowes. She was very helpful and has been with Lowes for a couple years, and also has had her own decorator business. She entered all the #'s, contacts the contractor and will come to our house with him in a few days.

We did go with white fixtures and a comfort height toilet. Our vanity is a very pretty medium brown wood, with a light creamy granite top and white bowl. A beautiful matching mirror over the vanity. We decided on a walkin shower (no tub), since we have a tub downstairs. The floors are the new snapin, looks like ceramic, but much simpler to install and remove. The floors look like a beautiful rock, and the granite compliments with similar colors. We chose the oiled look faucets and shower stuff. Since we are in a loghome, love the neutral earthy colors. I am thinking positive about the contractor, since I have heard good reports even in this forum. My hubby and I are pretty good judges, since we have general contracted 2 houses. We helped on both.

Lowes gives a 5% discount on their products when using their charge, then we will pay off

We do have another name that a friend that is a retired union electrician is going to use,
