Re: MOSTLY MANTELS....

[ Edited ]

These are so nice to see

So many fresh ideas that don't require batteries.  I also love seeing how people are decorating with very unique pieces, like those fabulous gilded mirrors and cachepots.

I think there is some masterful decorators here who know how to make a stunning and unusual statement.

I love the clustered amaryllis (a great way to showcase a flower I usually find unattractive!) and also echo your love for the celadon pot.

The lamps everywhere are a no-go for me because they are all either Asian influenced or funky modern and both genres are not my style at all.  The furnishings are also too, too, tooo much!  Leopard parsons tables living in a room with a rococo (ew!) style chair .....

The paintings are beautiful and those skies look very Homer-esque!  I also love the amber hurricanes on one of the mantels.

Ms. Kennedy's arrangement in that beautiful compote was fantastic!

That fireplace with the blue hurricanes needs to come to my house right now.  I will lovingly sandblast that white paint and return it to it's rightful rustic beauty.

I am surprised at how many styles seem to be incorporated into most of these rooms.  I know that certain periods and design trends can compliment each other nicely but that doesn't happen when a room incorporates three and four styles at once!

And finally....in the picture that shows the paperwhites in the whitewashed urn--those owners can neatly fold, pack, and ship those beautiful drapes to me in the same box with the brick fireplace.  (On free shipping day!)

@781Florist

What a fun post !

I love how we all pick up on different things, each of us with a different eye.

I didn't even notice the room with the faux-leopard parson's table.  To my magpie eye,  it was too monochromatic and did not have any kind of hoiday appeal or color contrast.

@Oznell   Interesting photos, but of course I must comment on the adorable pup on the chair.  Woofs

Number 2 and the pastel pink are my favorites. The pink is not something my husband would like so that might not work for me.

I am always very paranoid about draping any type of garland over the front of a real flame fireplace. I keep everything on top for fire safety. I love the look but couldn't do if.

We use our gas fireplace all winter so the flame is present much of the day.

@shoptilyadropagain ,  good call on the idea of red stockings against all the white.

@on the bay ,  yes to birch logs!  Love birch everything.

Oh, I'd love that brick sand-blasted too, @781Florist .  Ha, ha, @781Florist and @SactoSue ,  I only vaguely registered that Parson's table and thought it was faux tortoise shell (even if bad tortoise shell....)

@SactoSue ,  so true about everyone having a different eye, and picking up on different things-- makes these discussions so interesting...

@Oznell  Thanks for the wonderful photos of draping greens and flowers on the mantels I love that look! DH is all about old books, shelf clocks and ceramics. I have to wait until the last few weeks before Christmas to put up my manger scene and greens. I can hear his teeth grinding right now.

@PA Mom-mom ,  the combo of your DH's preferences, ( I LOVE old books and clocks, here and there, any time of year) with your choices, sounds delightful and like the perfect Christmas....

Covetous of those blue hurricanes.

I don't care for this wallpaper at all but to me, this would have been more appealing without the paperwhites.
