I love large front porches.  We sit on ours a lot.  The back of our house faces the southwest so we really enjoy our front porch. It is about 25 by 8 feet or so maybe larger.  We have wicker furniture and I love to add planters full of flowers in the summer.  It sill is in the 40's here but should finally warm up this weekend so we can enjoy our outdoor spaces.

I dislike screened in porches.  The screen seems to take me away from everything.

I know they take away the bugs and other pests... They might not have quite the same visual appeal of a nicely done porch but they certainly can be made to be quite lovely and are, to me, far more useful. I also don't necessarily think it's a matter of 'either-or'... Ideally, one might have a nice porch or patio and still enjoy a nice screened porch... Each to their own, but if I could have only one or the other, I'd opt for the screened porch every time...

In my pantry with my cupcakes...
