I bought the set of four 7 inch candles with remote for $89. I asked qvc if they had a lot of complaints about these and they said no.  I find that hard to believe.

I ordered my charger from eBay for around $25-30. I love it and feel I've saved a ton of frustration because I don't have to buy so many batteries.

I also highly recommend Tenergy rechargeable which I've ordered from eBay and Amazon. They are the only brand I've found for C and D size batteries. That actually hold a charge for a long time.

Sanyo brand is good for AA and AAA but the Tenergy brand in those sizes is also good.

I invested a couple hundred dollars in rechargeable batteries but I love them and would do it again! And yes, I have lots of battery operated candles, VPH lights, etc.

Love all my lights!!!

Is it a chemical smell?  Seems like someone else had to "air out" their Luminaras.  I haven't ordered those particular ones so haven't experienced that problem.  Hopefully, it's just temporary and will dissipate in a little while.

Has anyone ordered these candles and been shocked by the smell?  The smell is SO strong and the description says nothing about them being scented.  I ordered 2 sets of 4 and by the time I had unwrapped only 2 candles my whole house reeked!!  Going back. I am so sad because I love the look.

mickiealeane...I know exactly what you are talking about. I also ordered 2 sets of 4 and the smell was so strong I was sick to my stomach and nothing bothers me. It was a strong vanilla, musky, sickening sweet smell. And of course the more candles you unwrap the worse it gets. I sat them around thinking the smell would dissipate fairly quickly but it didn't. I am a big fan of unscented Fabreze to remove smells. I have used it on many different textiles with great results. I put all my candles in 2 plastic bags (no holes) and placed a glass in each p/bag. I poured some Fabreze in each glass and twisted tied the tops. Placed them in my cool garage for about 3 days and all the smell was gone. It really does work. But as you mentioned, the smell is awful. You are not the first complaint QVC has had. Love the candles hate the smell.

I had Luminara airing out for months, and no luck, so I will see in the Fall if the odor is still there.

I actually called customer services and was told these were unscented. Before I opened the box I could have told you they were not. I had to return them because I cannot stand scents - particularly synthetic ones - I had a headache for two days and was really ticked. They do hour-long presentations (only a slight exaggeration) on items and cannot give pertinent information.

Exactly!  There is never any mention that the candles are scented, if you can call it that, I call it an odor, in the description either, false advertising I say.  If I want a scented candle, I will get a real candle with the scent of my choice.

Thank you all for your responses.  I believe I did change the batteries.  But I think I will try again and see what happens.  Thanks again.

@tobes  Try a different set of batteries, one time I bought a supposedly new set of batteries at the store and the expiration date was a year away yet they didn't work, it was a defective set because when I bought some at a different store, the candle worked just fine! And I returned the defective ones back for a refund!

@mickiealane  Hi mickiealane---I have the non-remote Luminara---mine had a slight vanilla scent, but I found the scent quickly went away......but maybe the remote ones have a stronger scent....

Yes! I too am shocked at the awful vanilla scent. Neither hosts nor vendor are giving info regarding scent. I have recently had to return Luminaras for this same reason as no description is given anywhere regarding candles being scented. Customer service said to return at no return shipping fee. Sad, because they are so pretty. Cannot understand why there is not a nonscented option!
