Just a workspace: No sink, stove, or seating.

A workspace with seating:

An island with a sink perhaps?

A sink and seating?

And there's the sometimes controversial (on these boards anyway) island with range:

Island with range and seating:

I realize they are a mish-mash of styles, but it's the concept we are looking at. Which do you prefer?

Whenever I see an island with a sink and dishwasher, my first thought is about putting the dishes away.

I definitely do not like a cooktop on an island.
I wouldn't mind a sink, as long as it was a second sink.
I do prefer seating at an island, but it's not a deal breaker.

I prefer just a workspace, although if it were large enough a small prep sink and if my kitchen were larger a few stools.

Just give me a solid surface and a few (2-4) counter stools where I can sit quietly and have a cup of coffee and a nosh.
DO I HAVE TO SIT IN FRONT OF A SINK/STOVE/DISHWASHER TO REMIND ME OF MORE WORK ?????

I have an island with a cooktop and it works great for me. sink is right behind me. Kitchen table just a few steps away.

My preference is one with seating. An island with no seating would be my second choice. One with a sink would be OK but I hate to give up workspace where I can spread out to do something.....same with the range in the island which takes up more space and has a danger element if there is also seating and kids are sitting there.

I have had them with all work space and. with workspace, dishwasher and bar height section for seating. Loved them both!
I would not want a cooktop on the island because I don't want people walking around a hot cooktop or things splattering and it takes up a type of workspace you can't get on a counter. But I could live with it.
I was sitting by an architect and a woman planning a kitchen once at a meeting. I mentioned those factors andthe woman immediately said "You are right" and they changed the plan. She said she didn't want the hot cooktop in the traffic flow and of course you are giving up walk around space.

An island with seating--no sink, no cooktop.
